Title: Trophy Strike 120 Volt Ion Ice Auger
Post by: Churchill River on Mar 28, 2019, 08:55 PM
Cabela's is having a sale on this auger.  120 Volt is bigger then most.

I was wondering if anyone knows must about Trophy Strike?

This would be a good buy....if, if.

Hi

Been using one for two years now.  Very happy with performance and at current sale prices, they are a very good value.  Best feature - reverse.  Dam near impossible to get it stuck with a reverse gear.

Typical outing is drilling 15-20 holes and have never run the battery down past two of the 4 lights.  I do keep it inside the shack as cold will reduce battery life, so if you are out on a bucket and leaving the auger outside, you milliage will very.

Thanks Bart.  In reading the reviews I noticed a lot of people are saying the shaft is snapping off.  That wouldn't be a good thing.

Have you heard of that happening?

Hi

I have seen some of those reports.

I have certainly not experienced that and have managed to get mine stuck a few times... spring ice seems more challenging in terms of getting stuck or jammed at the bottom of the ice on breakthrough.  In those cases, the auger has "tripped" and a quick reverse has fixed the stuck auger.

Otherwise no issues in two years of use I have put mine through.

My brother in law uses one for corporate outings as well and has not commented on any issues.

Two examples are just that and don't do anything more than add to the observations to the issues.

Thanks Bart.  Going to talk to Cabelas about them, and see if they will own up to them having problems.

Best outing I had with mine was 77 holes through 2 feet of solid black ice last year and still had 1/4 of the battery charge remaining.  Love the auger, no issues whatsoever.
