I want to fish Oneida this coming ice season but I'm not from the area any tips on where to start since I've never fished it before would be GREATLY appreciated. Just trying to do as much homework as possible to be as prepared as possible when the time comes

They do stock Oneida from there.  In fact they harvest between 200 and 300 million walleye eggs a year from Oneida Lake and release "300,000 pond-reared, 190,000 intensively reared, and 190,000,000 walleye fry to stock into 50 or more waters across the state" (from DEC's website).
Great! Thank you for the info! @)

Ok I can't let the cat out of the bag quite yet but big news coming on the pond and hopefully will grab some attention from Oneida diehards. In the mean time I have a question, if you were buying a $10 raffle ticket (only 100 tickets sold) for a ice shanty what make and model would you want or like to see. Clam, Frabill, Otter, Shappell... One person, two person, hub style, cabin style?

Nothing is set in stone but it is looking like the normal "First Ice" event might not happen. Gander historically has done 3 of them. MN, Wisconson, and NY. Word on the street is that Michigan is getting the NY one. As I know more I will pass it along...
Also - Gander has asked Clam to have a "Pro" present in the ice belt stores on the 5 Saturdays leading up to Christmas. I am lined up for the 6th and 20th...
Thanks DC  Ihope they have . I look forward to Breakfast BS session at the Cracker barrel every year

Between frenchman and dunham island, you can get access by boreo's (excuse my spelling) OR champman park, williams beach. Just some

[/quote. How far out and what depth at these locations? Do these spots produce better at a particular time of the season?

Otter 2 person cabin are nice. If this is to be a fundraiser, you might want to sell more tickets or raise the price of the ticket?  The $1000 take from a hundred tickets doesn't leave much meat on the bone...depends on the exact model though and where/how you get it.

Sell more tix's (250).  I'd pay $10 for a 1/250 shot at a new Otter.  They run $700+  That way you'd make $1800.

Making $1000 on a raffle with only 250 tickets sold would be a good return. There could be a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th... prizes. What cause would the money be going towards? If it was to the Democratic National Committee or affiliated organization you couldn't sell me a ticket for a nickle! A good cause, I'm in!

Well this is going to be a first year event for my fire department (non for profit) I don't disagree at all with a otter they are the best I just don't want to bite off more than we can chew in our first year.  I will be releasing all details as soon as me and my committee hammer out the final details. A shanty is going to be our big prize... If I'm able to get a local bait shop to sponser the shanty a otter is not out of the question as that will lower our cost I am just very nervous about a $700 investment and not being able to sell the tickets. There will be tons of door prizes if all goes semi according to plan. This is a pond event so I don't know that we will get as many people as Oneida events get although the shanty raffle is open to anybody. Thanks for all input fell free to pm me

It's the 6061 reel, it just doesn't fit me. I keep gravitating back to the spinning reel. It's weird, I have a traditional bait caster reel for Lakers and love it.
If you want to sell it I would take it.  ;)

Whats up fellas!!! Cant wait for first ice. All my rods are now tb builds. Just picked up the sniffer tripwire and a power noodel rigged with bb6061 spooled with 2lb for the flats. Got a perch swt heart and walleye swt heart with the teardrop reels spooled with 5lb. Also got 5 of the frabill line counter tip ups for pike and getting 5 tip downs from rob at bartell for oneida. Picked up a new jet sled an ice armor suit and boots. Just need the the ice. Im currently trying to come up with something to put on both sides of the jet sled to hold the tipups/tipdowns to save space for buckets, flasher, and rod case in the sled. Any ideas out there???# come on ice.

Still need to put some wood goats in the freezer but im beyond ready for ICE!!!
Just added some rod holder/scoop holders to the new blue box  ;D

They are ready also. One of their favorite games is "doing ice fishing", as they say. An old rod n reel and a chunk of cork on the end of the line. We practice casting and they take turns being the fish...  :icefish:

I'll bet!  Just like all the stuff I keep.  eh Freddy?  Good luck with the 28.  I've grown so attached to the graph mode, I don't know if I'll ever go back to a dial.
