Congratulation , that's a beauty .
The thinner the ice, the more anxious is everyone to see whether it will bear.

how'd the new auger combo work for ya?

My Biggest worry is that when I'm dead and gone, my wife will sell my gear for what i said i paid for it.

I did not bring it, in fear that the ice was too thick. Once I got there I was kicking myself because it probably would have done it.

We went out south shore boat launch yesterday.  Beautiful day to be out!  We caught 7 beautiful Smallmouths.  Tons of fun but hard to fit through a 6" hole.  Fished in 15-26 FOW, caught 4 nice perch.  Mainly on tip ups.  Checked by DEC when they pulled up on blue / purple Yamaha sleds.  All in all, not the most successful but fun day to be out.

Fished out of Chapman yeasterday, fished anywhere from 15' to 29'. Stayed away from the crowd. Picked up 2 shorts in deep water and a couple of perch in close. No good keepers. Walk was great. Now the bad part, Forgot my minnows and had to drive back home to get those. After the walk in to get picked up this was in the parking lot snow bank. Frozen gills from the bottom of a bucked and some small crappies. waste.

bart:  I think that's the largest walleye I have ever seen.  Super congrats!  Nice sunset pic, too.

EddieRod:  People make me shake my head sometimes.

Going to head out again this afternoon after lunch. Not sure where I'm going yet.  Yesterday, went to Muskrat Bay in 10 fow and caught 2 dozen dink perch. Largest was 8 inches.  Had fun, though.

That's not my Walleye, it was caught by Racer268 . I quoted the post and at the bottom of the post Congratulated him. Trust me I wouldn't be able to contain myself if I caught a Walleye like that!

Please remove that congrats to me and congratulate Mr. Racer268!

I removed the quote to eliminate any confusion.

Thanks everyone!

We had another great day out on the lake.  Pooch, we had a terrific season fishing together.  We learned a lot and had fun.  Thanks for the great photos as well.  The big girl is now vacume bagged and in the freezer while I decide if I will get her mounted and by what method.

Filet,

I guess I lied when I said my big fish would go back down the hole.  I think we were all overcome by the moment.  It's quite a sight to see a fish like that swimming past the bottom of your hole. All I can say is it feels the same as shooting a really nice buck.  When we got her on the ice I was shaking like buck fever.  ha ha.

Good luck to everyone today and this week.  We'll be out on Oneida at least 1 more time, then wait and get ready for soft water.

The lake cleared out quick today.  60% of guys already gone.  The pressure leveled off right when the sun got bright.
Bite was decent for me this morning though. Albeit strange, they'll come in quick or follow up 5', but only mouthing it either on the fall or the pause.  Missed or dumped more than landed.
Fishing my 3rd choice spot as the other 2 were taken.  Both got there long before daylight.
Off by myself .6 miles to closest guy in 22fow.
Occasional fish on dead stick, most jigging.  Today only rap in 1 color working. Nothing else.
Since they were biting so light I kept downsizing gear and jigs all the way to 3mm fiskas and spikes.
Nada.

First time this year I had the "how they biting over here".   ::) ::)
Sled comes riding up to me a couple hours ago (& yes the fish scattered!)
Windows were fogged up from heater.  Thought maybe I was getting checked by DEC.
Open the door, nope! Guy on a sled towing a frabil 15' away.
Nice older guy or I would've had a bit more to say.
I just said nothing here.  Said he didn't understand he only caught 1 all week.
Also appeared he didn't have GPS & chart because even after I said caught nothing he proceeded to move over 100 yards and drill.  Except there's nothing over there but flat bottom.
Now he was nice, and did move over, but please don't ride up to me.
If he had've parked and walked I would've been much more helpful.
I'm out in the middle of nowhere for a reason.  Guys were in my spots I went elsewhere.
Happy to give report or advice, just when you see i've obviously gone out of my way to avoid the crowds give me my space.

Walked out of apps yesterday.  Along the pressure ridge just east of water tower  30 feet of water . Buddy I was with hurt his back so we stayed in one spot. Set  up tip downs and stayed for the long grind. And what a grind , lots of lookers ..fish charging 5 feet off the bottom only for the long stare down. And there gone. Had one on tip up but come off on the way up. Down sized and changed up all day but no takers. Couldnt get my buddy to move... dont blame him  he was in a lot of pain. Left the ice around 3 pm for the long ride home . Guess oneida wins again... theres always next year.next year I will have a gps and chip......and if I can dream a little a 4 wheeler.
Where is the ice !!!!

I was thinking the same thing, in the bucket they go. I hate advertising anyway. I have had people do drive bys and the next thing you know you are surrounded!!!

Is there a way to tell what kind of bottom you are over with your vexilar, like hard, mud etc? I'm still new to using them.

Its kind of Erie out right now, 1:45pm on a sunday granted the windchill is a little cold, but almost no one on the lake. 6-8 guys as far as I can see.
Granted I like being away from the crowd, but don't remember a day like this with so few people.
