I'd lower that quite a bit for Oneida, one pin's bladder was screwed up, it layed in the 6 inch hole, he was only 5 inches long, judging by the hole width.  He'd be 10 months old at 5 inches.

I was told by a credible source that they re about 15" after three years then add about an inch a year.

I would say at least 4 years minimum to get to keeper size on Oneida.

This is just a guess.

1 year - 6"
2 years - 10"
3 years - 13"
4 years - 15"

Keep in mind that they don't grow in the winter.

Wish I could keep a pin and bring it home and see how fast they grow. As a kid I would keep all kinds of small critters and keep them for awhile to see how they live. Tadpoles, salamanders, baby snakes, perch, anything I could capture. Spent my summers on the estuary of the Salmon river growing up so had tons of choices in critters. Coolest thing I remember having is a baby snapping turtle that ate anything and everything.

First time out tomorrow in a month! Hope I land on them because not looking forward to drilling through 20" of ice all day. I typically don't do well in March. Can't believe I didn't get out in February at all.  I am taking my dad out Friday so I have tomorrow to find them.

Fished the buoy 111 & 113 area today. Ran into the same conditions that Snagger described. Seemed like pins were everywhere and in big numbers. Best we could do was some 13" to 14" eyes but most were in the 7" to 10" range. After a lot of moving I finally found a spot that produced these jumbos. Grateful for what I got but wished I could have iced a few more.

1+ year old walleyes caught= 10 1/2"
2+ year old walleyes caught= 14 1/4"
3+ year old walleyes caught= 17 1/4"
4+ year old walleyes caught= 18 7/8"
5+ year old walleyes caught= 20 1/4"
6+ year old walleyes caught= 21 1/4"
7+ year old walleyes caught= 22 3/4"
8+ year old walleyes caught= 24 1/4"
9+ year old walleyes caught= 26 1/4"
10+ year old walleyes caught=27 1/2"

This is fairly accurate but remember when a 1+ year old fish is aged it is still considered 1+ until it's 23 months and 29 days old...
Kinda like humans I'm only 39 until my 40 th birthday but the day before my birthday I am still only 39 again...(39 years and 364 days)

Here is something to ponder... catching and keeping a 13" 10 year old tasty perch???   mmm tasty

.. Go away or I shall taunt you a second time...

Nice perch P-man.  Those have been in short supply lately.  Haven't seen too many full kitchen sinks/buckets posted this year.

Budman, I know what you're saying about "critters".  Over the years I have kept perch, sunfish, bass, snakes, turtles etc.  The fish are the coolest, especially the bass.  But from my observation, all the species I've kept will pretty much eat anything that will fit in their mouth.  I have little largies eat frogs almost half their size and swim around with their legs sticking out for hours until they could get it all in.
...yes, I know it's illegal to keep wildlife, but I was a kid and what kid hasn't kept something he caught in the wild?

The fishing was awesome last year, and the year before that.  Always going to have off periods like now, but the lake has been pretty good to me and my crew for as long as I can remember.

Brings up a good question, anyone have a growth rate for perch.

Well on the walleye I'd have to agree with some on Oneida it's much slower & those charts seem off for us.  These 2 were caught same day not long ago 4 weeks I think.

Now either there's a HUGE difference in growth rate among the same year class or somethings up.  Both were caught on 1.5" pimple, they're next to a reg 5 gallon bucket.
One was 5-6", the other 11".  The longer fish obviously much more developed as well.

Per the REVISED Oneida Lake Walleye table someone else noted above, that would make the smaller fish 10 months old and the larger fish 1 yr. 10 months old.
Basically you proved the theory that Oneida walleyes grow slower than that one chart implies.  Nice visual comparison bcons....

Didn't notice the numbers on that second chart, doing this on another window at work.  Rather think about fishing than a pile pf paperwork.

Thanks for that jig Sully, it made all the difference, nothing like a 30 fish flurry at the end of the day, just epic. Now I have 75 gills to clean tonight, there are worse things.

Again, just a search from a DEC site:

Yellow Perch Latitudinal variability in age, growth rates, and size have been observed among populations of yellow perch, likely resulting from differences in day-length and annual water temperatures. Typically, northern populations of yellow perch live longer and grow to larger sizes. However, southern populations of yellow perch generally grow much faster. In many populations, yellow perch often live from 7–12 years, with adults generally ranging from 5-10 inches in length
-Males Mature from an age of 1-3 years
-Females mature from an age of 2-3 years
-Age / Length / Weight lbs.
1 Year old  3-5”  0.03
3 Years old 5-9” 0.18
5 Years old 7-10” 0.38
7 Years old 9-11” 0.75
10 Years old 10-13" 0.95

Yellow Perch are very prone to stunting more so than that of a Walleye

Nice size perch guy's.It has been so long since i've been on oneida,(month and a half!) I decided to fish for walleyes.Found one keeper not long after starting out about noontime..then a long lull. I tried to find some more walleyes late in the day, but never could find them. This was the only keeper eye today...and I took a picture of the smallie too. It really felt good to get back fishing on Oneida.

Made it out this evening for last couple hours before dark. Tried a new spot and ended up catching a bunch of small and medium perch and eyes along with one nice keeper eye.
