Thanks for all the replies on the Elite 4.  Good luck Fishforpike!  Hope the bite's better this weekend.  I'm torn between heading back to Chaumont, hitting Seneca or getting back on Oneida.  So many places to fish, so little time!

thats great, :woot: but anyone remember when they made a mistake on the Lampracide in little Sandy and killed 1000,s of adult walleyes
we are making a slow slow recovery but the people who spear walleye in the creek under ny3 by rt15 are killing a lot of breeders I'm talking walleye that are all of 30" they filet them under the bridge makes me sick spearing walleye out of season while they spawn should be penalized by revoking you fishing license for 10 years and 40hrs community service working at a hatchery just my $.02. End of rant

Speaking of the DEC, I got my new licence on line back in January, aren't they suppossed to send the actual licence to me? I have the paper from the website stating I'm paid and it has my licence # on it and when it's good till but that's all I have. Trying to avoid calling them, wondering if anybody has experience buying on line?

scottcny
i got my online like that also---i got checked and the dec officer said i have never seen these. He called into whereever it is they call and they verified it was a good license.

Can anyone tell me how much snow is on the ice at Muskrat Bay? (Sully, maybe?)  My ATV is a small 2WD and can't get through much more than 3-4" of snow. Sure would hate to get it stuck and spend my fishing time getting it out. Thanks, guys.

Owascolake,
Thanks for the reply. so it sounds like there is no actual licence coming?? i guess i will have to call and see what the deal is. i don't think i will buy another licence on line.

No signs of warming up in the 10 day forecast so that will buy us that many more days of fishing  ;D

I bought my kids licenses on line back in early January and I have not received anything in the mail yet either.  All I have is what I printed off the computer.  Don't think anything is coming either.

wish the DEC would catch those idiots!  Just like here on oneida, my buddies that work at the hatchery say that they are always finding lures in the walleye nets from people going out at night and fishing for eyes illegally right where they net the walleyes.  ::)

Was on the lake last night and that's about all there is on the south shore.  Pretty firm underneath but a set of chains would be good piece of mind.

Wasn't gonna fish yesterday, but unexpectly changed my mind, hit the ice a tad late , missed first hour or so for eye bite... First hole I drilled was where I left off Sunday, grabbed a keeper eye and 3 big jumbos in first 10 minutes, but then was invaded by dink perch, full screen, so started exploring some water I've always meant too hit, first hit a few shallow areas trying grab 2 more eyes, but was not too be...then hit the deep holes from 129-127, checked em all, tons of pins and tons of sandy pond perch, only grabbed 2 more worth cleaning, long frustrating day, but that's Oneida.

I have never seen so many dink perch as I have this year. Lot's of pin pike too. The spring/summer of 2012 was a good perch and walleye hatch. The next several years should be great!

I had never landed one smaller than 10" before this season. They're either more aggressive and hitting bigger baits or more abundant

Any idea on about how long it would take a 10 in eye to become legal? Either this summer is going to be best or next ice fishing season with all these pin pike  ;D

I searched this info:

Dave Kelch, Sea Grant Extension Specialist

    Extension Agent

        Ohio Sea Grant

Walleyes hatched during the spring months, generally April/May, will average 6-8 inches by fall (September/October); depending upon food supply and population numbers.

According to the Ohio Division of Wildlife, the next spring, when the walleye is 1+ years old, length may average 10 1/2 inches; again, depending upon food supply, the number of walleye competing for the food supply, and upon when you may have caught it.

Most walleye harvest occurs during the summer months, so consider most yearling walleye to average 13-14 months in age during June-July; that's where the (+) enters the picture behind the age number.
The chart below, provided by ODNR/DOW, shows the following averages for walleye sampled from a past harvest:

1+ year old walleyes caught= 10 1/2"
2+ year old walleyes caught= 14 1/4"
3+ year old walleyes caught= 17 1/4"
4+ year old walleyes caught= 18 7/8"
5+ year old walleyes caught= 20 1/4"
6+ year old walleyes caught= 21 1/4"
7+ year old walleyes caught= 22 3/4"
8+ year old walleyes caught= 24 1/4"
9+ year old walleyes caught= 26 1/4"
10+ year old walleyes caught=27 1/2"

Again, remember the "+" indicates the fish measured were caught past their one year anniversary of hatch date.
