Wonder how deep snow, slush and minus 15 degree temps mix with a machine?  My thermometer is minus 15 and falling still.

No fishing today, but I did put some miles on the snowmobile, well over 24" snow on the ice in my neighborhood (Edgewater) there was a few guys out. My 2-up fish killing machine was working to keep the skis floating, drifts are all of 36"-48".  Hopefully this weeks warm up helps matters.

Warm up has been widdled down too late Thursday, Friday, then cooling back off Saturday, looks like major cold again for weeks after that.  Have a hard time believing were melting too bare ice.

Well at least there are other deadheads around here, gadam hippies. Most of them got their hair cut in 95 when the old man died, i'm afraid to cut mine, I might be bald headed underneath. :)

By the way, that quad hooked up to that fish trap looks like a tow truck hooked up to a matchbox car.

Buried the sled on the east end of dutchman on the way out in a big slush field. Only took an hour to get where we wanted to, good times.
Two of us caught 3/4 bucket of perch in three hours, but buried it again farther east of the island on the way in but had brains enough to stop right when we hit slush so we didn't get 100 yards into it that time. We need 100mph winds. The snow is real grainy and on the bare black slick ice you get no tractions. The carbides cut nice grooves but that was it. Should have just went to breakfast and talked  about fishing. Must have picked up the back end of the sled a million times, what a work out.
Most perch were 10-11" with a few slobs, no eyes. 24-26 FOW most taking dead stick after getting them fired up with big blades.

-9 here.

I measeared 14" of snow on the ice yesterday and had no issues pulling a 2 man shack with 2 guys on the sled. There was not much slush out of Cleveland except right in front of APPsVellas. Good all the way out to 119 and 121. I did find some slush on the side side of shackletons though.

Got out yesterday on snow shoes with my dad and cousin, walk wasn't too bad once you got a trail made, but pack light. Didn't have to worry about anyone running up on your spot, no one with in a half mile if us, that's one good thing about the snow I guess. Got to try out a few new rods I built too.
nice job and cool pics! Wtg man

There is a pretty good trail from Constantia to Borios now, and a few heading east-west on the north shore as well. Was a smooth albeit cold ride from Cleveland to Constantia this morning, but no slush on the trails, but you could see where some refroze. Warm weather would turn it all into a quagmire.

Hi all,

Are the slush spots near where people are drilling holes or are they everywhere?  Are the shorelines OK?

Shore is hard as a rock, there is a lot of ice out there. I saw 2 spots that were slush that refroze, there were other posts yesterday on the condition threads about bigger areas of slush out there though.

I have a little 277cc tundra that does a good job of keeping me on top of the snow...on the way out. On the other hand, the way back can be a biotch. The slush from the water coming up through the holes freezes to the bottom of the two-man shanty, which adds weight and makes the drag difficult---like a rock. Way too much stuff in the shanty to flip it up and clean the bottom off. I made a couple small runs and used the path from that to get going. The sled was really working hard on the way back. Don't want to decrease the lifespan of my motor. That's my baby. I either have to travel lighter or find somewhere else to fish until conditions change, which by the looks of things could be mid-March.
Of all my years ice fishing...one thing that I know is that I have a harder time catching fish when the water is welling back up through the holes. I don't know if it is a pressure thing, snow pack thing, or just the mid-February blues... Blew a trailer tire yesterday, forgot the spare at home. It was soft. One lug nut was a 3/4" instead of 13/16"... = another trip home. My electric auger would only work in reverse. Had to take it apart on the ice with my snowmobile tool kit and flip wires to get the reverse switch to make the motor go forward. Tough drag...lots of shoveling...sore back, neck, shoulders. HT has got a point. I love this sport more than anything else, but when is enough enough?? Then on the way home, I have to meet the ambulance because my son got chemical burns in his eyes (long story - told on facebook). Spent half the night at Crouse getting care...He's sore, but OK and will be fine. I'm ready to waive the white flag. Uncle....Uncle...Uncle!!
Always remember .... they have a brain the size of a pea! How hard can it be? ???

Jim,
I used an old iron to melt ski wax on the bottom of my small otter sled, it really helped keep the slush from sticking to it. You just have to be mindful about dragging across bare pavement so you don't scrape it off.

I know I said I enjoy the tough bite time of year,.....but, I was hoping that's where the line would have been drawn!  It ain't looking great for getting out the rest of February for quads, at least that what I make of the weather pattern anyway. THIS STINKS!!!! >:(
