The weather is gonna be in a roller coaster for the next week and a half. Snow maybe for this weekend and next weekend we might be testing which suit floats better with the warm up coming. We can't win but maybe a change is what the lakes needs to jump start the bite again. Fingers crossed.
10 days from now there will be no snow on the lake.  That has to be good news because nothing is biting now.

I'll take a warming trend over this much snow. No machine for me, won't get too far walking if it cools and this snow crusts over  :-\

Hey Pooch and Racer don't know if you're on Chaumont yet, but my buddy went out today and they had a sled and 4 wheeler.  He said the 4 wheeler got around-not as well as the sled- but it definitely was functional.

Was out on a 4wd arctic cat 400. We got around alright. Was dragging two shanties and another guy on the back. Probably about 8-10" of snow I would say

Just throwing this out there, if someone was to open a bait shop in Sylvan Beach would any of you be interested in patronizing a new establishment? Marion manor sells bait on the south corner and the old Gomez shop seems very hit and miss when they are open, Apps is 1\2 way down the lake so I think there may be a market. Ice has been good this year and there's a steady flow of campers and boaters all summer,  think there is any $$$ to be made?  Like I said just a thought

Gomez was bought and is now called boufs. I was going to stop in and tell them get involved in the online community. I believe it's my bosses brother in-law that runs it.

Fished east end of Oneida and hammered them. Limit of eyes and 21 perch !!!! Unfortunately all of the eyes were about the size of the one below and 14 of the perch were just about the same size. Was lucky enough to land 7 good perch. Marked a ton of fish that would not bite. Tried everything I could think of without much success. Buddy left me to fish Sylvan and he had 2 keeper eyes and 5 silvers.

Foot travel of any distance is near impossible and wheeler travel, even with chains, is getting pretty rugged. If we get anywhere near the snow they are talking about, I fear we will be taking a vacation from fishing for a while. Snowmobiles should be ok but some good size slush fields may become an issue.

. South shore nautical is on 31 across from Oneida lake marine but is only open 7-12. I think he works a 2nd shift job.  I'm thinking something like Bartell road, open early and closes late everyday

had a little better day today crossing the mason Dixon line , ended up with 23 perch and 5 eyes 4 being short , on my 6 mile run I didn't see any troubling spots , couple of wet spot but most likely from old holes , I crossed the mason Dixon line in the cover of darkness and retreated in the same fashion , thanks y'all , every spot I fished the ice was 12-14", it was snowing pretty good when I left , snow varied from 10-12" and starting to get heavy due to the warming

fished out of the south shore launch this afternoon.....pretty slow......marked a lot of finicky fish and coaxed 10 perch to hit with only 4 being over 10"....got a few pin pike also and quite a few dinks.....where I was there was a lot of slush under the snow in a pretty large area...saw a wheeler or two having some problems getting along but they did make it in.....with this new batch of snow it is going to be pretty tough for the wheelers.....might be a little tough for sleds too....we need a thaw

Crossed the mason Dixie line with fred and my buddy markie today, had a pretty descent bite from 8am til 2pm, then it just died...  First strike of the day snapped a rod I just bought, hand lined a nice eye up too the hole, but it came off, then missed a hit and dumped another good eye, so threw that braid rod out the door and started fishin a rod with mono, went 6 for 6 on burbots, smallies and perch after that... mid morning, had a fish snap off a rap and again around 2pm another snap off, either good eyes or hot burbots, picked away at the perch throughout the day, got a nice half pail of jumbos for some dinners, ended up the day with no keeper eyes, 1 short, 3 burbots, 2 bass and 23 jumbo perch.  All jigged up on raps...Guess the southsides where its at.

Shoveled a bare spot on the ice to check new snow, little over an inch at 530pm.  About 1/2" here when I got home.

Tonight will tell the story.  The computer models are showing odd pockets of heavier snow.  Almost like the rain & storm shadows that occur on the tug during summer or fall storms.
Keep fingers crossed the hills on the south shore actually do that.  Otherwise real rough weekend.
With these temps the snows very wet so while it won't add up as quickly, the wind won't blow it down or away either.
Cold behind the snow tomorrow may just crust the top making travel nasty.
Keep fingers crossed!
The thaw next week maybe just what we need!

Looks like the convergence line is setting up just west of oswego, could be a heavy band there, wind shifted at 2pm was east went west, if it stays westerly, no shadow off the Madison county hills to suppress Oneida snowfall., watch the wind direction tonight on local observations.   bet they didn't count on that big dry slot in eastern NY, this storms all broken up into pieces, complicated too say the least, watch for a new convergence line tonight.  Oneida could be a bullseye.

you can see the convergence on this radar out over the open water of Ontario just northwest of Oswego, got tug shadow here, haven't had a flake in over an hour.

wayne mahar is eating some crow tonight......was saying this morning maybe 3" total.....the way this setting up it looks like much more than that....hope I'm wrong....the lake is starting to slush up quite a bit....drove thru a nasty slush bowl inside Dutchmans island....sprayed the shanty pretty good

Its very complicated scout, could be 2 inches in chitenango and a foot in constancia, or vice versa, all depends on what Bcon said, where do the mountain shadows set up, looks like a 20 incher on the hill tops, but what does the valley get? million dollar question.  after looking at the radar and wind directions, I think Oneida gets buried.  but just 20 minutes north will be next too nothing, like lake effect.

That Radar is showing a lot of false stuff, talking too carl from mad river on southshore .....says  hardly snowing, maybe half inch today.  maybe Oneida won't get it.  only time will tell on this storm.  Wayne mahar may be right after all.  ;D
