Sorry.if it was three mile bay you were referring to then i don't know if they are catching walleye.  It's close enough to Constantia to say..yes?

A back up compass is a must even with any app or phone if it is a whiteout with lake effect it can kill your signal  with the cloud cover and heavy snow .  Don't chance it they are very cheap and as the season progresses and the ice changes it can be imperative. Get a pin on one and attach it to you shanty or throw it in your organizer and hope you never need it.  Just an opinion from the  "been there Wish I had a compass club ''lol and resident of the north shore . Out of towners I strongly encourage one .   Tight lines

APPS??

Yes. 43* 13.860N. 75* 52.889W that's off a pin dropped at the end of the point at the parking lot.

Well theres 3 types of windy days Nysportxman , the winds preceding a storm, winds during a storm and winds following a storm, too say wind kills the bite is like saying sunshine kills the bite...  whats the barometer during these winds? also what part of winter is it, fish can ignore weather if there in say early ice blitz mode or very late ice blitz mode.. I've done well in a wind a day ahead of a storm and the day after, but the day of the storm, I've had very mixed results.

I've noticed that if the barometer stays in a certain position too long, the fish react too the change, last yr my favorite barometer was around 29.90-30.00, this season the barometer has been lower on average, usually in that 29.70 area, anytime it rises too say 30.15 like today, the lake goes nuts, A friend of mine did more fish today than that day I made the vids, cell calls killed me...absolute mayham..., but theres yrs, the baromter is say 30.40 all the time, if it drops into the 2900's then they react, guess what I'm saying is fish like change.  After missing 2 good bites this yr too the flu and now my furnace, if that barometer is 30.15 this yr, I'm fishin if the winds are 40mph  ;D

Ive never fished during a storm..and I don't really go by the barometer because i get out any chance i get.  Ive just havent had much luck when the winds are howling.  Maybe its just me.

There was a lot of jokes last week made about the polar vortex, well think about it, its a pool of cold air coming down from Canada, but not like in a normal winter, its a vortex(low Pressure) normally we get our cold air threw high pressure systems, that's what different about this season. So if pressures are lower this season, fish will naturally respond better when it rises, this season, not every season.  Just a theory of mine, right down the numbers, see how many of your great days this yr occur with a baromter between say 30.00- 30.30.  deep water eyes and perch, not flatfish.

but if you know ahead of time that the bite will be easy or tough, even though you fish only when you can, you will better understand right out of the gate what jig stroke too use, what size rap, ect.. only 2 good hours in morning and one at night, can't be wasteing it trying to figure them out, right, see my point, weather is still important even if you can't fish often. maybe more important.

What weather site do you check out to try and figure future borometers?

What weather site do you check out to try and figure future borometers?

I just check local stuff like channel 3's website... http://www.cnycentral.com/weather/#   theres more complicated maps to figure it out days ahead of time, but I think hookinup has an easier model too read for future stuff.  if you check that site say 3 times in a day, you can see whether its falling or rising.

had a couple of buddys call me today while they were fishing. they said the flat fish were on fire today !

alot of talk about navionics. always remember, "THE COMPASS DOESN'T LIE, AND IT DOESN'T NEED BATTERYS, OR A CLEAR SKY TO WORK !!!
I've been in alot of white outs, and heavy fog. more than a few times the gps didn't have a signal, because of heavy cloud cover. always carry a compass with you !!   Sully...

Stormy, that is the smartest, simplest idea I have seen. I use the same system to keep my aerator going in the minnow cooler when I trailer the boat to Buffalo. Just hook it to one of the boat batteries, and down the thruway I go.
Bye the way, the boys in my brother's meteorology office had a good laugh over the overuse/misuse of the term "Polar Vortex" Something that's been around for thousands of years and now gets a different cool sounding name.
