I have the Vex 18 and love it, really don't know how I fished back in the day without it.

Hit Lewis this morning with Racer from 7-11....lots of lookers only one fish. Racer caught it and it was a beautiful fish. I got skunked, they would not bite, threw a bunch of different stuff at them. Ice is 8-10 thick and slick. Wind was howling and cold as heck. Cant wait till this weekend.

Fished the off the north shore/west end today.  Where we were sitting I measured 8 inches of good ice.  Last weekend off Lewis Pt I had 7 inches of good ice.  For the out-of-towners I would say the ice is about as safe as ice ever gets.  Very easy walking, it was glare ice, but I didn't find it particularly slick.  You could walk anywhere if you have the time and if the ice stays like it is today.  Although there is a good solid base, as always you need to use caution, there are always pressure cracks, gas holes and creek flows to ruin a trip (or worse).

Fished with Greenhead and we did 7 keeper 'eyes and 51 jack perch (combined).  Had half dozen or so short walleyes.  Wasn't red hot, but the action was pretty good and steady all day.  Little cold in the big shanty with only 1 heater and no snow to seal it though.

Called her a day. Left with two flags and a whole lotta nothing. Looks like it's minnows for dinner
I have never seen anyone do any good on Oneida with tip ups. :-\

If anyone was at Constanta today did you happen to come across a small blue tackle box? It must have fallen out of my shanty while I was pulling it. If anyone has seen or possibly picked it up please let me no it had all my lures in it thank you

That's what I was afraid of, thanks!

I walked out of Bernhards Bay this afternoon. I have the creepers with the "teeth" on the bottom and walking was slippery but able to be done. I just took my time. I fished 18 FOW just NE of Willard Island and caught one keeper 'eye in the short time I was out there. I only had about an hour's worth of time, including the walk in and out. At least Mother Nature made it worth my walk.

Yep, no shanty for me either. I just wait for days in the 20's and above with not much wind. Sitting all day in a shanty kills the back, plus I'd rather be outside.
I have seen guys do very well with tip-downs, but never with tip-ups.

You'll like those scratchers Steve, put a pair on my cat last year and went everywhere on glare ice, 2 guys on the sled towing shelters. No problems.

Went out of Cleveland today. Did 35 perch and 3 keeper eyes (only took one home) and dumped a couple of pigs at the hole trying to horse 'em up with my perch gear.

I've had them on my 550 IQ XLT for three years now, but only used them once. Just broke 100mi on the sled  ::). I'm seriously thinking about heading out to Oneida for the first time Friday. I have pretty much no experience with the lake so I've been waiting for fairly safe ice before I head out with the snowmobile on my own.

Glad to here the scratchers work good nightfisher Jim..... thanks. I had the track studded too, and my sled is a lightweight, fan cooled, Z- 440 arctic cat.

Pooch,

No matter what, any day out on the lake is better than a day at work.   (wel, l I guess work would be better than falling in)  Had fun, glad we got together.  I'm going to give it a try on Friday.

I have never fished Oneida, but it's not all that far from home.  I'm seeing the current ice conditions, but I can't make it out until Monday (following 50 on Saturday and upper 40s sun/ mon).  Any chance for safe ice Monday (and where)?  DYING to get out, but not a strong winter swimmer.  Any suggestions or advice?  Thanks!!
