Finding bass help
« on: Jan 10, 2010, 09:49 PM »
Just wondering if anyone could tell me where to start looking for bass (large or smallmouth) in a lake that has little or no structure. The lake is basically a big bowl. Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Try to find any change in bottom contour, even only a couple of feet.  Look for any cover in the water, fallen trees, remaining weeds, etc.  If there are rocks look for these.  Otherwise drill, drill, drill.  I fish a lake like this in Ohio and sometimes you just drill 100 holes and move until you find them, I usually look deeper first and work shallower.  Hopefully you have a gas auger, otherwise this approach is not real practical.

Definately start deep or on a ledge if you can find one.  Move shallower if you get no flags.

My largest LM through the ice 8.3 lb was from a bowl shaped pond. I was fishing a tilt in 4ft of water next to shore...
Good luck!
