Lets ALL make a New Years resolution to put specific lake info on the http://www.iceshanty.com/ice_fishing/index.php?board=172.0 (http://www.iceshanty.com/ice_fishing/index.php?board=172.0) page dedicated for such info. Perhaps an exception for some emergency info( like TWO SNOWMOBILES THRU THE ICE ON LAKE X) to make sure EVERYBODY gets the info, but otherwise, that's why there are two pages. One for specific reports for specific lakes, and this one, for more general info.
This will ensure we ALL get good info, in the right places, and nothing should go amiss.
Just a suggestion...but a darn good one, one that gets made over and over every year...
Best wishes to all for a Happy and safe New Year.
Mike

Members would be more likely to post things in the proper board if you would change the name of the "Ice Fishing Montana" board to "Ice Fishing Montana (General Discussions)."
-
I can commit to that. It's getting a little cluttered on this page with all the inquiries on specific lakes .... Finally a resolution I can follow thru on! I would also like to share my other resolution... To ice fish and hunt as much as I can possibly get away with! It will be a happy new year, hope yours is too
-
Perhaps when you send new members an e-mail accepting them into the forum, you could include an explanation of the purposes for which the two boards should be used.
-
And an explanation of the three posts that are necessary to be able to see the reports page. I think that a lot of these new people don't bother to read up on how the forum works.

I am new to Lakeside and the MT iceshanty pages, but like the Dude...I can abide.
-
Agreed, a little bit of reading goes a long way.
-
Just bumping. Point STILL NOT getting thru!
-
As Mike mentioned, this has been brought up plenty of times in the past but good suggestions by all. I don't blame the newbies for being confused so much as the site design for creating the confusion. At our request, this was added as a sticky at the top last year but it has since been removed by the site operator and/or moderator.
"EVERYONE needs to read this...Especially newbies!
Within the Montana State Forum, you have the option of visiting two message boards:
1) Ice Fishing Montana
This board is intended as a place for questions, answers and opinions about general locations (e.g. “What’s a good place to find kokes within 50 miles of Missoula?”) and discussions about bait, gear, safety, weather, Montana life, etc. This is not the place to ask about the ice thickness on Secret Lake. For that, continue on!
2) Montana Fishing Reports and Conditions
The intent of the Fishing Reports and Conditions board is to provide a place for you to:
a) report the results of your most recent outing, and/or the current ice conditions; OR
b) ask if anyone can provide either of the above if there are no recent reports.
Your report or question should pertain to the waterbody specified in the thread title.
IMPORTANT: You will not be able to see, access or post within the Reports and Conditions board until you have made a minimum of 3 posts on the Ice Fishing Montana board.
Once you have reached that minimum, you can reach the Fishing Reports and Conditions board by going here: http://www.iceshanty.com/ice_fishing/index.php#c15 (http://www.iceshanty.com/ice_fishing/index.php#c15). If you have not yet made 3 posts or are not logged in, you will only see the Ice Fishing Montana board in the table.
General Request
If you are unable to find a specific topic on the first page of the Ice Fishing Montana board, you have 2 options:
1.) Go to page 2, then 3, 4.... until you find what you are looking for; OR
2.) Use the search function (http://www.iceshanty.com/ice_fishing/index.php?action=search (http://www.iceshanty.com/ice_fishing/index.php?action=search)) because there is a great chance that many threads on whatever topic you are looking for already exist.
Taking this approach will help to minimize the potential for redundant and parallel threads.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation!"

Thank you, Perch! This has been driving me bonkers and I was going to type something up just now when I saw this thread.
-
Nice post B L. This has been driving me bonkers also. Gets a little old weeding through all the posts in this section that belong in the "Reports & Conditions" section. I just saw 2 Pishkun threads started by the same person within almost 12 hours & both could've been asked in the Pishkun thread on the "Reports & Conditions" page. Oh well, I seriously doubt it'll ever change.

PerchAssault, the link says that I am not allowed or approved to see that link....and I cannot find how to get into the page at all. Any suggestions?
-
Nothing wrong with what your doing. Site is behaving as designed. You can't see everything until you get the required amount of posts under your belt.

Ken............
Yep, I just joined and found this confusing. Perhaps a page with general info on the forums when you first join would be helpful.

Click on COMMUNITY above then the help and FAQ section.

Helpful info

I am new to this as well. The two boards is confusing. Is there a reason for it?
-
Read the links provided. There's zero confusing about it.
Merry Christmas ⛄️🎄😃

You need 3 posts to see the Montana Fishing Reports and Conditions. It has the lakes itemized so if you fish Tiber, you post on that thread the thickness of ice or whatever relates for tips and info on that lake.
This thread is for making people like you mad that there are 2 different boards. So post 2 more times (anything to get 3 posts in) and then you can visit the other board http://www.iceshanty.com/ice_fishing/index.php?board=172.0
I am still trying to get used to it. Merry Christmas and enjoy the boards.
-
Merry Christmas to you all. I'm sure I'll figure it out.

hello

Almost EVERY state listed on IS (if the state has ANY activity) has two boards, ONE for conditions, so you don't have to wade thru 3 pages of recent posts JUST to see what conditions are like on your lake. and ONE for general BS.
This site is twenty years old, and has always been this way. Some states have 3-4 sub forums. I believe the reason they set it up so you have to have three posts to view the conditions report was to avoid having people go thru all the motions to register and etc, then only check a lake once, and never come back. That can be a lot of work for a site admin, then the person never returns.
It's NOT that hard guys, just different from a lot of the rest. I think our Montana forums on IS are some of the cleanest, friendliest and most helpful boards that exist on the internet, period, which is why I decided to sponsor this site, almost ten years ago...

Newbie from Missoula. Two things: Pike through the ice and chains on the tires to get into the spot.
-
Welcome Smiley:)
Ask away about the chains.
Use the search function in the upper left for pike info.

New member from Montana. Spent a lot of time ice fishing in high school and college but fell out of it for a few years. The kid is getting to an age where he enjoys being outside and I need something to keep me busy through the winter. Seems to be a lot of good info on the boards.
-
This site is pretty neat!
-
New member, going to try our luck at TRR tomorrow. Hope to find some great info from you all! Will be heading over to other thread! ;D http://www.iceshanty.com/ice_fishing/index.php?board=172.0

I'm an ice fishing newbie. Love to hunt and fish but have never ice fished. My friend took me out last Friday and I had a great time. We never caught a fish. I am not sure if I should thank him or cuss him as I think he created a monster. I'm excited to learn. Thanks for the post about two different boards.
