ITS EYE TIME

As sad as it is to say another year has passed on the ice...but that just means its time for the next season!! And that season would be WALLEYE time.
With the warm spell that hit i figured it would get some eyes moving around and i was right. started out about 10 am bouncing around between gravel bars and eddies and got a few dink smallies but no eyes. i tried muddy water clear water fast water and slow but no eyes. About 1pm i moved into some shallow water about 2 ft and stuck a pig. she decided to head straight under the boat and raked the line down the gunwale. after a nice fight i got the net and as i pulled her up to it the line just went  "POP".  she was gone. probly 6-7 pounds....crap.
Worked the area good but no more.  Made a big move to a new area and BANG!! got a 17 in the boat first cast! then followed up with about a 6# 26 inch female that looked ready to burst...she got he free pass back and was released to do her thing!
Now i was unable to find anyone to go with me so i just sat there and whacked them for the next couple hours. luckily another buddy showed up around 5:30 so i got to share the fun. The best part was he only took 3 home for him...Sorry no pics on the water but it was pouring durring the evening smack!!
Total:12-13 shorts a couple smallies 1 LARGE female released and 10 between 16 and 23 inches kept.
Largest weighed 5.03...
All i can say is the run is on!!!

That is a nice mess of marble eyes. Where were you fishing at A-Bomb? The eyes are startin to hit on the rivers and lakes around here also. Good job releasing the preg female, alot of anglers wouldnt do that. 8)

Nice set of EYES there A-bomb, it will be a great spring this year for sure.
Your a true fisherman to let the Pig go for another day.

years ago i cleaned a female about 9 pounds (more ego than need for food) and can remember THOUSANDS of eggs spilling out. I fish a marginal fishery and thats just thousands i wont ever see. i even felt a little bad about the 2 females i kept. think for the rest of the spring its just males...thats why they call'em eaters. wish i had some pics as she was awesome....it was raining so hard when i got her i don't think you could have seen her...lol ;D

crap.....i was just informed the limit is 6. for the last 5 years i thought it was 5 oh well 5 was plenty...lol!
