Toph, Does the tip-down you made for me count as a jig rod?   ???

Guess I have to add one more!

you could jig with it I guess...not very sensitive though...

I've been noticing a few new rod offerings from a couple of different companies over the past few days so it looks like number is gonna go up by a few this year ;D

Can you elaborate a little? What companies, I know about the Frabill straight line rods are comming out, but who else has new rods?

Uhhhh...lemme see here. Frabill has the straight line combo as you stated, but they also have a few lower end rod combo offerings. Jason Mitchell has a few new ones coming out, but I think they are geared more towards the big game fish side of things. And Northland has a new "team Northland" rod out, basically looks like a St. Croix Legend without the spring bobber. And I just noticed a Fenwick elite tech rod that I've never seen before. I'm sure there will probably a few others available as well, but so far these are the ones that I've noticed.

Well it looks like I'm up to 24 now. Picked up a couple Bro combos...a 28" deadstick, and a Bro 30" M/H. The other two are a Northland 25" M "Team Northland" Pro series, and a 13fishing 26" M whiteout rod. Paired the whiteout with a 500 Shimano Sienna and the Northland with a Pflueger Trion. About the only thing I can vouch for is the sienna so I'll be experimenting a little this year. I would like to get my hands on a Thorne Bros. custom or two soon so I can give those bad boys a whirl. Not to mention some of you other custom rod builders out there.

I keep it pretty simple for ice fishin. Just 4 rods. A noodle, 2 ultralights, and an ugly stik incase I come across any toothy critters that really want to play... Now open water.... Thats a different story!!!

 Rods are:

1) HT Ice Blues 24" Light IB-24 with a Shakespeare Sigma 200i reel.

2) HT Iceman 24" Light ICL-24 with a "Blizzard" ice fishing reel.

3) Rhino Indestructible 24" RNS241L-GWH4 with a Martin 34 Fly Reel. (first time trying a fly reel)

4) Berkley Cherrywood 30" CWISS30" M with a Cabela's Fish Eagle FE500ULB reel.

I also have a couple white fiberglass rods I inherited from my wife's grandfather when he passed. They don't use reels. You just wrap your line around 2 wires or wooden pegs sticking out from the rod handle.

I also have a Buzz Stix Rod Combo. What a piece of junk. I bought when they were all the hype. The tip broke twice and I fixed it twice. The reel was plastic junk. The plastic bracket for the vibrating bullet broke off so I took the bullet off and used it without the vibrating feature. The battery cover kept breaking the tabs off that held it in place. Finally broke the tip off almost to the 2nd eye. I was planning on using it even though it is about 4 inches short. I put a new spring bobber on it but not sure if I should just put the bobber on one of my good rods and pitch the Buzz Stix.

I could still use it as a whuppin' stick for my kids. ;)

i am willing to bet that the numbers are for the length of the rods, not the number of each that he owns.....

well, off the top of my head...

about 6-8  HT Ice Blues 24" Light (1/2 are missing the last eyelet, but still work good)
2 28" J Mitchell Meat Sticks
1 26" (I think) Berkley Lightening
2 28" Scheels Tourney Rods
1 28" Scheels Guide Rod
1 28" Scheels Orange Cheapie ($10 combo)

that's it for now.....  ;D

Had a buzz stick, gave the rod and another away and used the reel on another, but just discovered that the reel dropped a screw somewhere. There goes the last of that garbage!  ::)

I can show this to my wife so she can see that I don't have a problem and I'm seriously under-armed!  2 for panfish and 1 for eyes is all I have and carry.

You really need to expand your horizons.... You should get a noodle rod, just sayin.  ;)

Jimmy sounds like I need a noodle rod. I have about a dozen mostly cheapos for my 3 kids and friends I have a couple I keep aside for myself though . I am always buying more. At this point though with having my 3 kids and bringing their friends once in a while I am not purchasing any of the higher end gear, dont want to stress out watching kids or wife beating on my gear, alot easier to watch with $25-30 combos.

My favorite rod is my glass 30" noodle weight. It is a different animal to fish with. I picked it up at Jim's bait shop in Mayfield, NY ten years ago and have yet to see another like it.
