It never really warmed up at all today... I was fishing in the Crosby area today and never took my Ice Armor suit off once! We are getting close now! The guy I was fishing with and I agreed, lets get it over with. Lets kill a few deer and get out on the ICE!

It seems like we always get what the old timers call "Indian Summer" for about a week, then winter starts creeping in. This next week may be the last warm weather we see in 2012. @)

We can only hope that it is.  I remember getting out the Friday after Thanksgiving a few years.  Maybe that can happen this year.

From a post I made last year..

After some digging and research, here's a compilation from meteorological, historical, and almanac sources I found as to the definition of "Indian Summer":
A period of mild, warm weather following a hard freeze, that can occur between St. Martin's Day (November 11) and November 20. There is an old saying that " If All Saints Day (November 1) brings out winter, St. Martin's Day will usher in Indian Summer".
History relates an old Native American belief that the warm winds come from the home of their southwestern god, Cautantowwit. My research shows this to be the god of the Nipmuck, an ancient Algonquian Indian tribe living in eastern Massachusetts.
General belief in Minnesota (and elsewhere) seems to be that any warm (above 70 degrees) weather in late October thru November is determined to be an Indian Summer.

It was originally a mid winter thaw that eliminated snow cover but left the ground frozen... It made indian raiders nearly impossible to track. Being that they could do whatever they wanted and the bounty of the raids was plentiful, they called it "indian summer". ;)

Last winter would have made an outlaw or group of raiders VERY happy.

I bet the Northerns are straight up stupid as the rocks on the bottom of the lake right now. After that hot summer of being pinned to the bottom trying to stay cool, I bet they are trying to eat ducks and sea gulls right now.... that big moon is shining bright, it may even be a 24hr bite. @)

Too bad I gotta work pretty much non stop right now. >:(

It will only take about 10 min with the wire feed welder...  ;)

In all seriousness though....

If any of you guys have big pike water in the area, this may be the weekend to hit it! Big x-raps, super shad raps, and magnum and musky sized spinner baits are really good stuff. Think BIG, they often wont bother with bass sized lures this time of year.

All of my really big northerns were caught between the time the leaves started to change and fall turnover. That big huge full moon seems to mark the peak of the bite. Man, I wish I could get out there...
