fish nut here:
Roonie the switch you want is a RV 12 volt power solenoid it will hold the amps  of the motor witch can hit 170 amps and the control power is only .5 amps. so a small momentary on switch well work.
The out put of a handa starter with no load can hit 4700 rpm at the out put shaft.
Just something to think about and it is about a 5 hp.
Any import car starter will work as long as it is a gear drive one.

Roonie,  yes I live in Saskatoon, next week I'll send you a msg. on taking a look at the auger. My dad is in the process of putting an 8" blade on instead of the 6" on the auger. It will be interesting to see how the 8" cuts compared to the 6".

I believe the starter is from a Nissan or Datsun. We have never used a switch before, so you need a buddy with you to hook and unhook to the battery. I have seen 1 other auger like this, it had a dimmer switch for off and on. It would be nice to have a switch to vary the speed, sometimes its a little tricky to get the hole started since the auger is always going full blast.

Your arm won't rip off if it snags or jams, the belt just starts to slip.

roonie,  We have put an 8" blade on the auger, it slowed it down big time. I haven't had it at my place for a few weeks now, I should be able to get it from my Dad as we are headed out to strap this weekend.
