JIG POLE QUESTION

MY BUDDY JUST BOUGHT A CHEAP POLE FROM WALMART. THE KIND THAT THE SPOOL LAYS FLAT AGAINST THE POLE. IT CAME WITH SEVERAL SMALL PLASTIC PINS. WHAT ARE THEY FOR ? THE SPOOL HAS 4 HOLES AROUND THE OUTSIDE, DOES A PIN GO IN THERE TO ACT AS A LINE STOP?

i dont know what they are for but i use them as a depth finder
i put my jig all the way to the bottom and put in a pin so if i fish suspended fish i dont have to monkey around finding the bottom
