ideally, jig in 24-40 ft of water, from top to bottom.
in deeper water, jig mostly 20-25 ft down, where feeding trout are cruising, but move up and down too.
bounce lure off bottom every now and then several times in a row.
hold lure motionless every now and then for 15-20 seconds. they often smash it as soon as it moves again.
When fish comes onto the vexilar, and he is looking at sort of in one spot. This works really well with a little cleo, small williams whitefish, or williams wabler.
if fish is still tentative, reel up 6-10 ft as fast as you can, go to choppy jig again.
change lures every 10 minutes or so.
move locations every half hour to an hour.
a good tip for tube jig is to let lure fall from ice to bottom, on free spool, and let it settle on bottom. reel up to the top again, and let it fall freely again. you will see how effective this is quickly, if you have a vexilar.
good luck!
