Historic Day
« on: Mar 25, 2018, 03:47 PM »
Myself and a friend went out today in North Central Ma on 9 to 10 " of ice. Went through 46 shiners and caught over 70 fish. I got 30 bass and 2 pickerel myself. Here are some pics of the bigger ones ranging from 2.5 to 4.85 LBS!

A bad day of ice fishing is better than any day at work!

Thanks guys, it was an epic day. Between the two of us over 70 fish! So many times we had 2 or 3 tip-ups out of the water waiting to get re-baited. Over 40 years ice fishing and never experienced that around this way. We probably
missed 40 or 50 each just due to more than 1 up at a time. We caught 4 fish on 1 dead shiner and 10 or 12 on dead shiners when we were out of live bait! Couldn't even get to my first cup of coffee for 3 hours...LOL

People look at me funny when I bring 7 dozen shiners for just myself but it's days like that why I do. I've ran out of bait once and vowed never to do that again lol. If I use them I use them and if I don't they go back in the tank untill next trip.

Nice work bud.  Had one of those days at Champlain.  Thankful that we were driving on the ice.  Over 5 hours no break...

And this is why I moved to jigging. We had multiple 300 plus fish days this year in RI and MA and they were all on jigs. The cost of bait as well as time spent setting up the tip ups and running for the bucket just decreases the fish count on a good day for me. Plastics vs live bait even better since you can catch multiple fish on 1 plastic before it needs changing.   One way or another going through 7 dozen of shiners or catching over 70 fish is a great day!
Just add water.

Good day for sure.
Especially for there being no ice in Central MA. ;) LOL
