caution on the ice
« on: Feb 17, 2017, 03:32 PM »
Fished Tyler lake 2/16/17 plenty of ice about 8 inches. Problem was the heavy winds were blowing snow, the snow was covering the holes my buddy walking back to one of our holes stepped into a hole which was about 3 feet wide. The hole was covered with snow the snow makes a good insulator and keeps the water below from freezing. We were lucky and my friend was not hurt had to scramble to save the minnows after they got dumped on the ice. The hole was 3 feet long but about 8 inches wide just enough to break a leg. I guess my point is to watch out for open holes with the snow covering them.

Did the hole get 3 feet wide from melting slush?
