Clam Hub broke again!
« on: Jan 17, 2016, 12:54 PM »
So I had my hub out in the wind and lets just say the wind won.  I don't understand why oh why do they use plastic joints inside of there hubs, as nine of them broke in the last wind storm I was out in (20-30mph) so long story short I'm in need of a new hub.  Any insight on any other brand of hub I could use or do they all have plastic joints?  I did like the fact it was black on the inside for sight fishing so something that has black out ability is a must for me.

Can any hub can stand 30mph winds?

It's most unfortunate you need a black-out hub shelter.

The new kid on the block is a bit lighter inside.

Note the LIFETIME WARRANTY ON THE HUBS AND POLES.    That is a very huge plus.

You really should check the link to see what you're missing.     ( you'll never be cold again.     ;)2 )

I have the original Eastman icecube.  Metal hubs, but the poles are a bit weak.  Don't go out in 50 mph gusts....

A frabill? I meant while it was set up. I should have clarified,  sorry

I live in Georgetown I don't fish the lake because I like peace quiet and sharp auger blades but I have to say I see a lot of Eskimos on the ice in our wind! Which is pretty stout most of the time! I own two and broke poles on an older fatfish on 11 mile but I really didn't have it anchored properly when a massive squall came thru! Otherwise I've had good luck with them! And you believe they are metal inside holding poles together

My eskimo has metal hubs, the new fat fish inslated is nice, parts are cheap and easy to replace if thing get crazy. Mine has never broke but we fixed my brother in laws only because he opened it like a bull in a China closet!

I'm not sure but when I set it up it was calm, that a problem here in Colorado one minute fine next all hell can break loose.  I also lost a cheap ebay hub a few years ago in the same sort of thing calm wind the a big gust and I was sat outside and my hut was going across the lake while my hub skirt was still on the ice.
