Heh its not over yet Bigred. We don't expect those ones to be leading at the end of tourney. Going to a better lake with monsters in next week. Our big burbot will come in later Feb.
Yeah you should come up here Bigred. Fish by day, furburgers by night :roflmao:

TGF...To be completely honest with you, If I could find a good job in the area, I would probably move up there permanently...become a Canuck citizen and everything.  I'm not kidding either  8)

I honestly do see a move to Canada in my future depending on circumstances.

You just have to get used to the police riding around on horses :roflmao: And once you cross that border man, that cold air hits ya. Why it drops from 40 F to -10 F in a few meters :roflmao: :roflmao: Joking. Being Canadian is not that bad, heck I'm even getting used to the metric system. And our money is different colors which I like.
Look forward to having you up here in the great white north if thats where you end up ;D

My examination of the tape shows approximately 34 inches for the largest fish.  This would translate into an  age of 30 + or - 5 depending on the specific lake characteristics.  The fish could be as old as 40 as lake trout tend to reach their asymptotic length by the time they get that big.

It takes a really long time to replace old mature individuals such as the ones harvested in the photo.

Something to think about.

Beautiful fish released or retained. Will they come through a 8 inch hole? I was always told that it is not the old mature fish that do the spawning but rather the younger adults. My grandmother hasnt had a baby in 60 years.Maybe its time to leave her on the ice.

What does your Gramma look like? Any teeth? Just asking cause I know someone who might keep her :roflmao:
Funny you should say that as I was at a campsite and saw some native guys bring in some huge lakers in late September. Out of the 7 only 1 (the smallest) showed signs of reproducing after cutting them open.

The laker popualtion in that lake is just fine and will be as long as thier food source isn't over-harvested ;) Bigred, you are welcome to my province anytime. You would be a welcome addition to the BC fishing community. But we would have to teach you that trout eat bugs, not other trout ;)

Some BC boys go camping.

And decide to hit the ice for some lakers. But first we need some BC size holes (excuse the phallic symbols ;D )
3 8inch holes triangle.

4 8inch holes with landing strip.

Tbone is all excited saying he is going to catch a big one and we will have to eat his inches ;D And there is no way we are going to knock him off the #1 spot on tourney board for lakers :roflmao:

Well we land some lakers....I caught this one in the first 15 mins of me fishing. 34 and a bit inches. Tbone is getting nervous ;D I didn't tape him because I knew I could do better :cookoo:

Then fish-slayer lands this one.

Now Tbone starts getting serious. Notice the grin isn't so big now.

Fish-slayer says it's ok if tbone wants to hold the big one that just bumped him out of 1st. Notice the steam from all around him. He is working himself into a frenzy ;D He must be related to ChrisN with the fancy gloves from Manitoba :woot: :woot: :woot:

He has worked himself up so much that he has to dry off his wet feet. They are drenched.

Next day he decides to keep this cool and not get worked up. He even gets smart and builds a wind block (kind of reminds me of Grump)

More pics...

We decide to come back in summer so we can GPS the lake.

Yeah we thought that would give it away, but thats OK as liked the topography shot. Lots of guys go there and don't get anything. You should try it ;D The road is plowed then only a 5km walk in unless you have snowmobile.

Those fish are one in the same. I'm sure if I picked it up it would look small with my bigger than average frame ;D. Just over 20 lbs.
Fished a few hours this am. Notice the fish with the tail chopped off. Would have taken 1st in burbot but the tail got chopped off by an errant axe. They will get bigger, much bigger ;D They are from 5lbs up to 9lbs 8oz.
