I will also be setting up the weigh-in stations today and will report back what it is like at each location. Hopefully we won't see the 50 mph winds when the front blows through, although we'll have the hubs ready for it if it does!! @)

Checking out ice today and will report later but don't rely on  the report too much. Conditions will change dramatically after the rain Friday.

Good luck!! Hopefully the system coming through will turn the bite on!!

Looks like the slush locked up somewhat last night (only 3-4" at the south end near Bay Bridge with the top 2"+ solid). Will know about the north end this afternoon when I set up that weigh-in station.

So if the shotgun start is at the park, we may need to weigh in at maiden, then drag back to the trucks at the park? Oooof

Just trying to clear this up after looking at the rules. Perch dont count as a species for the 12 largest panfish?

They told me that perch is part of the 12 (panfish). I had the same question when I saw 2 different sets of rules on the tourney site.

Due to the snow melt and the small drop-off to the ice at the park, sleds will have some serious trouble there, so we are looking at having the northern shotgun off Maiden Lane. The only issue there will be offloading. We'll see how both locations look tomorrow afternoon and discuss at the captains meeting.

Yes they are part of the 12 panfish count. Again, in the Team event you are looking for the following each day:
-largest Pike
-largest Walleye
-largest 12 panfish (perch, sunfish, bluegill, crappie, rock bass)

In the Open division there is a separate category for perch and for panfish (crappie, sunfish, bluegill, rock bass).

Sorry for the large picture but photobucket is getting stupid lately. I took this picture at 2:00 just about in the middle of the bay. It will be impossible to enter the bay at the south end at the Bay Bridge bait shop with a sled or atv. The only slope is at the launch itself and that was sloppy in the morning.  Beyond any shadow of a doubt, the only place that I found that an Atv of sled could enter was at third creek. If Maiden lane is a no go, third creek might be the only option.

There is about 8" of snow/white ice on top of about 8-10" of black ice. The rain will get rid of a lot of that top layer by Sat. I would recommend ice scratchers on a sled if that snow disappears. Some areas I found did not have any snow on them.. I ran my sled from the north end of Newark to  Grassy Point in the south and conditions were about the same all the way.  It will be sloppy, but we should be able to make it.

I think we're going to have bare ice come the weekend. We easily got 1-2" of rain tonight with the warm front going through and with warm temps tomorrow plus more rain when the cold front goes by, any slush on top should be history. I will be taking a look-see tomorrow mid-day at both weigh-in locations for both ice thickness/slushiness and ability to get on the ice with motorized transport.

Cant wait! We are heading up in a while. One question, with all this warm weather is the beer up there still cold?    ;D

Quite a bit of slush in spots. Going to be messy tomorrow, but hopefully will lock up for Sunday. Great turn-out so far heading towards 200 anglers at this point...

Most anglers do not target walleye on Sodus during ice season, but they are there.  @)
