2 inches of black ice????? i usully use the 10 but keep the spud close to open it up if i want to do any trolling...........whi ch opens a whole new question!!!! if we install down riggers to my portable shanty do they count as tip ups? slmmers? or hand lines ???? can i run more then one rod off them ?????...................... .........i gotta be honest here guys.....i might have to make a call to the DEC on this one!

Ok.....it's 38 at my house and the wind is blowing 30 mph. So the lake is freezing up as I speak.....right?

So, please give me GPS coordinates, jig color and type, depth, line weight and exact jigging pattern for 3 lb perch fishing on Irondiquoit Bay. Also, please be so kind as to meet me there with coffee, danish and bait. I'd appreciate it if you'd drill several holes for me as well. Oh, and bring your shanty.....with your heater. again RG brings up the classic question .... can wind cause ice when the ambient temperature is above freezing ......
we will study what our good friend and fellow self proclaimed expert fishforpike referred to in another well organized thread ...carb icing! it is called the venturi effect where a low pressure cuses air to flow with the right hummidity causing the temputure to drop and ice to form ....

this chart shows the temp the humidity and flow and when ice can be expect to flow ...it also shows i too can get cool charts off google just like RG can ;D

so after careful examination of all the data we have collected i can clearly see what is needed to cause ice at temputures above 32 F ..... a steep drop in pressure! so if you find something that sucks ...toss it in the water ......
i think this is where the old saying "go jump i the river " originated from ! anyways this should be enough bait to make my old friend RG bite and reply with some of his insight ;D

You are a lucky man. After careful analysis of this thread, have come to the conclusion that many of us need ice. After myb infamous science career, I at least learned that sucking the air out and reducing pressure will work!
What we need is a good old fashioned asteroid - say - hitting D.C. As it passes, it should reduce the pressure low enough to freeze just about everything. Plus, it will make one hell of a nifty hole in the ground filled with dinosaurs. And, who doesn't love dinosaurs ;D

Oh that's my favorite!!!! Nothing like spending a nice relaxing day on the ice with your lab barking at me the entire 4 hours on ice. Maybe his feet are just cold and he wants to come in with his owner!!!! Just a thought.

Almost forgot the most favorite on anyone's list. Make sure that if u bring a friend ice fishing for the first time u bring an extra machine so when he gets bored he can see how much fun it is to do donuts on the ice. Don't worry it doesn't bother the fish they don't have ears.... And it's ok u drive as fast as your machine can possibly go threw my set of tipups!!! It brings the fish in closer to me&@&&$&" thank you

Reminds me of a time when I rebuilt a boat. I put Styrofoam in the gunwales and floor for flotation. My older Brother commented that it was a good idea and that it would make the boat float higher in the water. He's a psychotherapist. :-\

got another question for you. If I go night fishing say 10pm and catch a limit of crappies prior to midnight and then after midnight catch another limit of crappies.... is this legal?!? It is 2 different days ;D

honestly it is a great question and there is no real answer! what i was told by a dec officer ! if you get a limit in a outting then you are limitted out to the next day .... i find this a rather sketchy answer and i think we need some opinions on this one ...... don't worry about facts people just toss yer 2 cents in .......... i do believe random agruements on the internet are a stress reliever!
to answer your question better loudmouth i would suggest you dump the first 25 call me to meet you then you have back up! i'm only thinking of you ...type of guy i am

I think you can only have 2 days limit in your possession ,2 separate days would be legal if they are not together" IE"1 limit in a cooler in a different place but I may be wrong

i'm telling you right now if you get caught afield with 2 days limit ,your going to get wrote up! if you get caught in a vec with 2 days limit and the eco has reason to believe you got them in one day you will get wrote up ..... but don't talk my word!!!! actually call your regional office and talk to law enforcement ....or can your local eco............... will the tickets stick i'm from oswego i see 1000's of questionable tickets stick every year .......

I think glass bottles work better with the wrappers still on them:) which brings up another good qwestion non toxic antifreeze to prevent your holes from icing up or just straight charcoal???

we never said it didn't we said wind will cool the water surface which causes it to ice faster.... this is why you blow on soup to cool it .... we also talked about the venture effect and why ice will form in the throat of a carburetor when it's 80 degress out .... and yes it happens you can google it ....

For the last time, here is how to keep your holes clear. Take a box of ex-lax, crush it up and add 1 gallon of wine. Using a turkey baster, apply about two ounces to all holes once every ten minutes.

years ago when wd-40 (orginal formula) was the greatest thing since peanut butter we used it for everything from starter fluid to paint thinner ....... a lot of the guys trolling lake Ontario swore they caught more fish spraying j plugs with it then if they didn't .... I personally don't know but I do know guys that swore to it !..... I do honestly know when fishing for walleyes in Oswego we greased rapala with preparation h and the ones with it on out performed the ones without ! does it work??? does gulp work? maki's ? I guess if it works for you use it ;D...... the good think about the perperation h is ...if other people are a pain in the ......mmmmmmmmm your all prepared ...................... ...................... ...................oh don't taste it

There's plenty of room ova here in maine.. The food we will provide by our sportsman like conduct, and it won't be stink log's if I get the pleasure of guiding you in this fine state.. If ya bring Murray, Snagger, HT and the rest of the diehard's with ya.. I'm sure we can Ice enuff fillet's so you should be allset on gas..

Question for everyone, one of the lakes I fish doesn't have much structure, thinking about taking my old Lincoln TC and filling it with ethanol, changing the oil with wd 40, using my 12"auger and my chain saw to cut a 10x20 hole in the ice and creating my own structure. There's only 2.5 " of ice now should freeze back up quick. Any feedback appreciated. Ps how many years will the wd last underwater?

well jigger I'm checking the wind chart in your area and you might have a healthy breeze to help in the ice growth tonight ..... i would be holding on that 12 inch auger tho for the annual smelt derby .......creating structure is not as easy as one thinks! things we place deep in the water can have a great influence on us for years to come i used items that i knew would improve my life coming up missing first the phone ...no more wrong numbers at 2 am no bill collectors or salesman no mother in law ^5 second the lawn mower ...lawn mowers often offer great structure for fish also gives you more room to store fishing equipment! i added the weed eater to this and now i am free on week ends during the summer ...oh darn guess i better hang around down at the lake ...ok think hard now we got fish moving in ...they need to eat hmmmm remember the neighbers dog you know the one off his chain that reliees his self right where you walk and barks in the middle of the night ????? oh i failed to mention if your a animal rights activist , you really need to find a different thread to read ...I'm old ....legally i think I'm no longer responceable and at my age i just don't care what i say .....
back to our subject ...fish structor ..... i think you jigger now get the idea ,use your head and pick items that are not only envo. mentally stable but that truelly benefit you and your lifestyle ;D

hey this is great ...how far will the gov go to get money???? how about a bicycle tax! that's correct ,bicycles...don't get me wrong I hate seeing grown men peddling away in spandex and a helmet that looks like the movie alien ...but I don't think we need to taxing people just because they have a lance Armstrong fetish ......a cheap envormentally friendly and health way to get around .... we can't have that ...TAX THEM ! I can't help but laugh the states say bicyclers don't buy gas or a registration fee there for they use the road free ..... well wait is a sidewalk tax next? people walking use sidewalks and roads free....WE CAN"T HAVE THAT ........ seriously when is this crap going to end? when to we toss the tea in the harbor ! ...by the way I walk and ride a bicycle to go fishing and hunting so yes it does belong o this site ....

HT I did I bought a bike been riding it to the river and down the power lines lol I tried riding the pig bike but it ain't so good going down the powerline lol

That'll teach them to wait next year lol but glad I never have to worry about computers being down every since I have a lifetime license.... just hope my info doesn't get lost somewhere while they do the update.... Trapper since I've started reading your posts I'm typing worse and worse.... keep catching myself going back and fixing mistakes
