Having trouble with my Strikemaster Auger cutting.  Checked blades and they are sharp.  Had to rock the auger to get any cutting at all.  Real hard ice

Any Thoughts

Ice Auger Question
I have Strikemaster 4 cycle auger.  It is 3 years old and barely used.

Auger would not cut ice unless I rocked it and even then it did it poorly.  Checked blades at home and they are sharp. Ice was very hard due to real cold day.

Any thoughts and or suggestions?

Thanks

LOL, it's not poor typing and spelling, rubs some people the wrong way to start a whole new thread just to try and get your first post.  My guess on your auger is that if it's three years old and if you've never sharpened or put new blades on, then that is more than likely your problem,  they may feel sharp, but cutting ice can wear the angle wrong and then it doesn't matter how sharp the auger is, it still won't cut well, hence having to rock it back and forth.

I don't think starting the thread as first post was all bad. It was stating "to get to the reports & conditions" that was kind of lame.
On the other hand, he did ask a question seeking some help.

Welcome to the Shanty Dollie.....Enjoy your stay !!

agree with MatCat about the blades not being sharpened in the proper spot. After punching a ton of holes the blades still feel sharp, but will have worn where they cut at the highest efficiency. Just get them completely sharpened. It's like a whole new auger.

The blade may feel sharp but if the angle is wrong or a little dull, well it will be a rocking motion to get through ice.  I had the same thing happen when I used mine the second year I had it.  The blades felt razor but were not in reality correct.  I would suggest taking them off and hitting them with a stone if you know how.  If that is a problem, buy another set and send the current set out to be honed correctly.

Just a micro amount of rust not seen by the eye will cause the blades to make snow cone ice.

Good Luck and don't pay attention to the remarks.  These guys are a hoot in real life.
wish you many hook-ups

new blades are a must on any auger and we'll worth the price to just replace them.
