Anyone going out tomorrow?  The forecast does not look good.  Have the day off, I'm 90min drive away.  Is it worth a try?

If you are looking at the bell tower from the lake does anyone know where the guy went through a few days ago?

What’s the ice like around Sully’s point and SE? My walleye grounds took a hit with the wind and pressure cracks.

Anyone get out off of long point today or recently? Just wondering if it’s still safe.  I plan on getting out there Sunday.  Hopefully it’ll be good by then after all the rain today

I have seen that area off the the right of the Bell Tower flagged off with yellow caution tape in years past.  Must be something in that area.

It might be an underground spring right there.

My 4" lazer was getting just a bit harder to crank so I used one of those blue plastic handsharpeners, now I'm looking to buy a new pair! The auger just skates across the ice now, also wore a groove in them so it was a nogo for me.

Piece of red scotchbrite on a roto type tool. make sure it is spinning away from the blade and only clean up the beveled side. don't do the other.

Ive messed them up before but if you use a stone, go slow, keep the same angle and it will cut like new

Try Fish307.com web-site, they sharpen blades of all kinds and send them back on a swap program within a day.  You can also buy re-furbished and new blades from them.

Anyone planning on getting out this Saturday? I wasn’t sure if the ice is still safe after all the snow/rain and pressure cracks after the storm last weekend.

During the day it's about where you can start. They move in a little closer in the evening. Good luck

If I don't get destroyed by snow tonite (Im in Boston NY) I think Im heading to Mayville tomorrow morning, If I get into gills, perch or crap Im happy. Years ago after first ice I went in close to shore near the paddle boat and had a great afternoon. Pressure should be on the rise so that's good too. I know Im going there for sure next weekend. During Feb I have a week off so I want to get down at like 3- 4 am and jig for walleye during the week instead of setting up the hut and all that. I have a Ice helix 5 with Navionics so I want to use it more to improve my skills, maybe get my first walleye there. Im not counting on it  ::). Oh well hopefully be there tomorrow.

Mayville is at the north end of the lake on the western side. Quite shallow water. Mainly pan fishing.
Long point is a state park just north of I86 on the eastern side. Deeper water with holes. Walleyes perch and crappie are targeted here.

New to Chautauqua, follow the crowd but not to close.  North (Mayville) and South (Lakeville) ends are pan fish.  Walleye - any mid lake access . There are a lot of guys that will talk to you on the ice give them a try.

Ive caught a lot of Crappie in Mayville honestly, usually on a really small jig with a "tail like " plastic  like a Bro worm from Northland, or what is really good is Maki plastics (made right here in Castile NY). I would usually get them at dawn or dusk. always a nice surprise.
