Spoons and spring bobbers?
« on: Dec 22, 2013, 02:05 PM »
When jigging a spoon do you use a spring bobber? The spoons are heavier and seem to make the use of a springle bobber useless. I bought a VMC spoon and a slender spoon but haven't had a chance to try them other than letting them dangle from the rods inside the house.

I do not like using spring bobbers with spoons.  I feel I loose some control over the spoon.  Plus, I view the spoon as more of a reaction bait and light bites detected by a spring bobber are not the norm.

I don't use a spring boobber pretty pointless from the weight of the spoon imo.

as the other guys said,   spring bobbers are used for lighter presentations. if you rod has it then just come straight down from the rod tip with out going through the bobber.
boss spoons, they can catch it all!!!

I have a rod that works great with lighter spoons and this is what I do.

Should I use a stiffer rod with stiff tip? If it is a reaction bite do I even need a sensitive tip to detect the bite?

I am currently looking for a rod for smaller spoons and raps 1/8 oz or smaller and have been pointed towards the TUCR Precision by a number of ice heads.  I have no experiences with with rod just using it as a guide.  Generally a fast tip leading into a strong backbone.  I also think the 13 Fishing Wicked 27" UL would work nicely for smaller spoons.
