That will basically hold true to all shimano reels.  It is because of the smaller area of the line roller with the line groove.  Anyway I kind of make it a habit of pinching the line as I'm reeling up to leave one ice hole to the next.  Also helps with preventing ice clog on the rod line guides.

But inside the heated shack they work awesome.

Love my siennas. I have not had many issues with them icing up personally.

It's the only reel I use now. Paired with Pline ice flouro it sheds water great, but if you start getting into extreme temps (-10 or lower) pretty much anything will start to ice up.

I have 8 Sienna 500s and I love them for the price. I do replace the felt
drag washers with carbon fiber washers (43 cents) for a smoother functioning drag system.
My one complaint is that the bail roller's clearance so small that all but the
tiniest slipbobber stops get hung up when reeling line in (especially with the
added weight of a fish) so you have to reset the depth constantly. Otherwise,
they are a solid and affordable reel.

I have been thinking about trying one, but hard to go away from my trusty Pflueger Trion TRI20X

I absolutely love my shimano reels. I'm thinking your line freezing issues are coming from the type of line your using.
Look at me I can walk on water

i really like the sienna's as well. I purchased a couple last year. It is still hard for me to go away from my tica cetus. Although I have many different reels to try them out. Trion, sienna, cardinal, president, tica cetus, cabelas. All are fairly similar imo. Cabelas has their UL reel on sale for 17.99. That is a good buy on that reel. I want to buy a couple but told myself i already have too many reels.

I would have to agree on the bobber stops getting caught and having to reset your bobber depth thing. Braided line definately freezes up in the line roller on the siennas fishing outside in cold temps, but braided lines tend to freeze up outside on almost any reel. It's aways nice to have another rod/reel or two setup with mono for fishing outside a shanty if you plan on doing that.
