11 Mile - 23 December 2014
« on: Dec 23, 2014, 05:32 PM »
Very windy this morning so my buddy and I decided to take shelter in the cove on the north shore. I set up in 12 FOW and had a trout come by immediately.  It was the only fish I saw all day!!   :P  Even made five moves.  Even went out over 32FOW and watched the vex for a while - nothing high, low or mid water column.  That cove was the dead zone for sure.  My buddy caught a rotting kokanee (and kept it.  What's wrong with him?  I don't know.  We left at 2:45.  Ice was 7"+ and solid with a crusty layer of ice over some standing water.  No more than 3-4" of snow over most of the lake with bare spots showing up again and drifts near shore.

It was better than being at work but at least at work I get to look at fish porn.  It's horrible to be at the lake and not see any fish.

That cove is where I set up a week ago with only slightly better results than you had today. My flawless technique really let me down. It appears that such action as exists will be found on the other side of the lake but that wind had to be brutal on the south side.
We're born, we live for a while, and then we die.  Sounds like a good reason to go ice fishing.

Haven't fished the North side in quite some time. Mainly fish the South side, Suckers, Rocking Chair, or Lazy Boy.

I fished howbart this morning and didn't see any trout at all. Managed to get a couple of pike on a spoon. It was fun to watch them come in and look it over, give it a jig and see them bash it.

23 and 26 inches. Not great but provided some action. I was sursprised they were that aggressive. Usually they look at my stuff and move on.

Was out at the mile yesterday as well (23rd).  Was fishing cross creeks in about 5ft of water. Caught 2 bows early on jaw jackers, then managed to loose 2 more at the hole throughout the day. Left at noon.  The big W was out in force. Those 4 fish were the only ones seen/marked all day.  Pretty slow day on the mile.

A bad day fishing is better than a good day at work.  If it was always easy to catch fish, then the challenge would be gone...   ;D
