Pike Fishing at 11 Mile on 4 Mar 2011
« on: Mar 06, 2011, 09:40 PM »
My buddy, Joe, was skunked and needed to get the smell off.  We hit Sucker Cove, skirted the open water around the pressure ridge and made our way to one of my favorite spots - or at least as near to it as I could get with the open water.  The water was cloudy and the fishing was slow.  Luckily we found some waterdogs and had them in the water when Miss Piggy came by around 11AM.  This was Joe's first pike ever.  She fought for five minutes and got her head in the hole three times before I was able to get a good angle to gaff her.  Was he excited!  His first ever pike went 33.75" and 13 pounds.  She was beautiful.

For me the best part came the next evening when my phone rang and all six of his children were saying 'thank you' to me for helping their dad catch such a tasty fish (they had it for dinner).  Overall we each caught one pike (mine is the 25"), lost one each, and saw a bunch more.  Joe also caught a 19" bow on a slugbug but I got no love from the troutskies that day.

Enjoy some porn:

fished sucker cove today saw 2 nice northern 7-10lb range.  2 smaller norther not interested in any thing.  Three of us fished all day and landed around 15 stockers and a few nice suckers.  The ice is deteriorating fast several pockets of open water all around the west side and inlet.  I fear that the ice is not going to last more than a few weeks and with this warm weather and wind... take a friend and some rope if you want to be smart about it, is a few fish worth breaking through the lid....
fish all day drink all night....!!!!!!!
