Louisiana is pretty darn good too. Combine that with some homemade tarter sauce and you have a meal fit for a king!

I use tartar sauce too, just don't tell anyone....

Reb's Tartar sauce

Adjust quantities to suit....these are just off top of my head

1 cup Miracle whip
1 tsp horseradish
1/8 tsp garlic powder
1/8 tsp onion powder
big Tbsp of dill relish
sprinkle of dill weed
shake of salt

Catch and cook!

X2

I use to use fish crisp but I can do 2-3 times more fish with the same amount of fish batter using catch and cook.

Finding what’s in your local grocery stores may determine what kind ya get. This has been a reliable brand for me.

Louisiana Fish Fry, though that has been deemed a bit too spicy by some of the "aunts" at church.

Andy's "Red" flavor has become my go-to.
Uncle Bucks light and krispy from Bass pro is good for a dry batter. I add some bread crumbs and some spices but not hot spices that bury the fish flavor

I've used the McCormick dry fish fry mix and liked it, still love the batter though.

I will say using a beer with drakes makes it much better... Tonights was a vanilla snowdrift porter from lienenkugels.... I dont drink but the wife does a little so i buy good beers t to double for batter mixes

Rebs, I agree 100%. The problem I have with batter is that in my Little duel daddy it’s hard to keep the fish from sticking together and it does make a pretty good mess out of your grease. That’s why I get lazy. A lot of people substitute 7-Up or Sprite for the beer also, I’m not nuts about the beer flavor either. But I worked in a lot of restaurants that do it just the way you’re saying.

Yup, I used to have a little one, had that prob too. Ate the onion rings faster than I could make 'em. :roflmao: Finally went with a full-size one. Actually heading up to my buddy's restaurant with my fishing buddy in an hour for some beer battered fish and onion rings for lunch! Nice to have a buddy with a great restaurant ! :woot:

I have a brother in law with a bad restaurant, but that comes in handy too. 😀 The old Fry Crisp was a simple good one too. I had a good friend that used to own a Kentucky fried chicken too, it was surprising how well that coating worked.
