Just wondering what you guys use to change up jigging spoons and lures quickly. Obviously, retying is tough in the cold and hard to do quickly. Are you using a snap swivel, or maybe just a snap at the end of your leader? If so, does it affect lure action? Thanks

I tie a piece of leader to my jig like the line on a snelled hook and have a snap swivel on my line. I've done this in the past when I only had one or two rods and it worked pretty well. You don't have to worry about the jig spinning because the snap swivel is actually a barrel swivel with a snap attached to it. In a pinch you can take the snap part off and use the barrel swivel if you don't have a barrel swivel with you. The fastest way to change jigs is to have a few rods with different jigs already tied to them.

For small jigs or teardrops I've use the small snaps fly anglers use, called a No-Knot Fast Snap.

Take a look at "fastach clip"

Thanks guys. Do you feel that the action of the lure is the same with these options?

I use them all the time doesn't seem to effect the action trolling or jigging. If you look under this heading called "equipment" just below this section they are talking about it with a picture

For my predator jigging outfits I use a Berkley Cross-Lok Snaps with a Flouro leader then a Shampo Ball Bearing Swivel tied to my braid. The Berkley Cross-Lok Snaps are not always the easiest to use, but they won't fail (fought a 130+ lb Blue-fin tuna that folded the snap almost 45 degrees and it still did not fail) and it is light enough that it does not effect the action of my lures.

Any snap about a foot or so from a barrel swivel.

A metal loop will obviously provide more lure action than a direct tie on. The common consensus is to not use a snap with a jig. That's fishermen thinking, not fish. There are fish that are finicky and picky. They will bite a lure based on the presentation of it. If the added snap/loop provides the right lure presentation, then so be it. If a direct tie on is what is needed, then so be it.
For the purpose of faster lure change, I do use a snap and mostly snap swivel. The fish are biting a piece of weight with three hooks sticking out of it already.

This is what I use on jigging raps/spoons. Just tie my jigs on.

I have some of these but find them hard to grip them to change hooks, lures or whatever.

Yes I agree. I find them more semi permanent.

Jigs get tied direct. For everything else I use Kahara quick lock snaps. Size 00 or 000 I forget which.
