Yellow perch as bait
« on: Jan 09, 2015, 03:51 PM »
Just a quick informational thing concerning the use of yellow perch as bait. I emailed fish n game directly and this was their reply.....

"There are a handful of designated lake trout lakes that do not allow the use of yellow perch for bait whether dead or alive.  Those bodies of water are First, Second and Third Connecticut Lakes, Big Dan Hole Pond, Big Diamond Pond, Lake Francis, Granite Lake, Nubanusit Lake and Silver Lake.  In other bodies of water the use of only dead perch would be allowed."

Sweet. Thanks for clarifying that. I like the idea of jigging up free tinker perch out of my pond and using them for dead/cut baits over buying suckers.

Thanks for sharing. I know this has been talked (and argued about) in the past.

And I thought no spined fish as bait period. At least I was always playing it safe.  Good to know.

I like a nice juicy eye-ball behind a pimple on a siwash. Or on the tail hook of a Jigging rap. Yum. Perch belly strips out nice for bucktails too. Yay.

Caught fish many times on perch eyes when no one else was catching anything.  Also used tiny perch on my traps in NY for Muskee and Northerns.

I also thought this.
A watched lake never freezes.
