CNY Ice Fishing!!
« on: Jan 27, 2017, 12:17 PM »
Is anyone planning on going out anywhere this weekend? I haven't been out in a while and was wondering where there is safe ice.

Don't rely on some internet advise..   No ice is ever safe...   You might have to go check yourself..
I hope the rest of your season is safe and productive....

As Raq. Said no ice is truly safe check the reports page , this may help in your quest , and check it yourself for your own piece of mind ,

I would think that most small waters that still had ice will be good again by Super Bowl Sunday... anything with open water now, you may want to wait a little longer than that. Use a spud and wear a flotation device regardless. Any ice that is left is probably pretty degraded at this point. I wouldn't chance anything this week in CNY. You could always head up north...

I would think anything below 1500 ft elevation is suspect , 2 guys died North of Oswego on a Bay off Lake Ontario;  http://www.syracuse.com/crime/index.ssf/2017/01/van_buren_men_identified_as_ice_fishermen_who_died_in_sandy_creek.html.

I fished a reservoir today, about 7" of ice. Ice was fine, the fishing was brutal!
