structure on a string
« on: Dec 23, 2007, 07:43 PM »
A few years ago I found a product called structure on a string and posted here.  People talked about it being a good idea.  I want to revisit this and ask if anyone has actually used it.  Any results?

Thanks

If you live in a part of the country that has Hobby Lobby stores they have an almost exact match to Reel Weeds.

I bought they 6 pack of weeds this year for ice fishing perch and panfish. I think I bought them just so I could find out if they do work. I have talked to a few people that truly think they do work.

I built my own...but haven't really had a chance to use them yet. I have changed the Red-N-White Bobber to a piece of a pool noodle cut to about 3 inches long. Then I used a draw string keeper to float the string in a vertical position.

Here is some I posted on in another thread:

Here is a pic of one piece of artificial structure (SOS) I made today. I bought some clearance Christmas Garland from a craft store, 3 - 19 foot pieces for $2.50 each. After I cut each strand in half then doubled them up, I folded them in half, twisted the lengths together, and added 2 oz. pyramid sinkers to the end of each strand two piece strand. I ended up with three 5 foot long, double strand pieces that I attached with a steel leader to some 30# line. I had some styrafoam (from some electronics) that I tied them to. I put the styrafoam inside of some old socks to keep the fishing line from cutting through it.

The garland is wire, so I can change the shape if it to make it appear fuller, as long as I can get it in and out of the hole. Now.... I hope it works.

I hear postive and negative about reel weeds..homemade+ commercial...sounds like if you are in the right area on the right day ...they work...wrong spot, different day..they dont...but I have not read where they spook the fish...so I guess I am going to have to make some and try it
