windlass Tip ups
« on: Jan 20, 2016, 05:44 PM »
Does anyone use spoons or jigs on a windlass. And what species do you target with jigs or spoons, do you tip them with anything ?

Yes.  I'll tie anything on them that I'd jig with.  Primarily target perch with them but also pike.

I use my windlass tip-ups for Northern Pike mostly. I also catch and release Largemouth Bass. Treble hook and a large shiner, BUT I also add a spinner blade for extra flash as it's jigging . A light spoon would work about as well.
There's a fine line between fishing and standing on the ice looking like an idiot.

One of my most consistent perch set ups used to be a Windlass  with a CJ+Spins adjustable spoon (forget what they called it). Anyway I'd leave about 8-10 in of line below it with a 12 or 14 treble paired with a medium shiner. Fatheads work well too but you'll catch a lot of small ones too. Used to be cause I just don't fish tip ups much any more. Any shiny spoon would do fine in this set up.
