I guess it happened yesterday and all you could see is the plow for a good chunk of the day. Sun must have taken care of that and gave it enough heat to melt and sink. South side of the lake near shore by the island. Story I heard was that 3 trucks all parked side by side and were not in them when they heard the ice start to crack. 2  out of 3 made it off of that but one sank.

I only saw 7 inches where I was at yet there were lots of trucks and cars everywhere.

Someday F&G is just gonna ban driving on the ice.

Gotta protect the stupid from themselves.

Hope not, we'd lose all the free entertainment.

There were a lot of people watching and heading over there all day to watch. Would have been some good ticket sales if there was a charge.

I've seen a few trucks go through on winnisquam.  Even though it can be safe at times, I'd never risk my own!!

Fished the chanel side of the Island yesterday and had a good laugh at the guys who had their trucks out there.  We had 4-6" of ice.  Looks like they need to start handing out heftier fines to keep people off the ice until its safe.

3 Trucks side by side on 7" of ice...WOW!!!  They're lucky they all didn't go through.  They need to be on ice shanty and read the ice reports and other reports of trucks going through the ice.  I guess its one of those things where they see a bunch of vehicles out there so they automatically think its more than safe.  I wonder what F&G would recommend about ice thickness to have a parking lot on ice? Just Kidding ;D  Don't know if people will ever learn ice safety.  Hopefully nobody was hurt.

If they ban driving on the ice do you think there going to chase after you on unsafe ice don't think so.Also you have to think about them blocking spots where its easy to get on driving or not. I believe you drive on the ice at your own risk anyway so in a sense its banned anyway you always have that choice to park and walk.We should protect ourselves from the stupid. These stupid people who think its safe to do this should not be allowed to purchase a fishing license never mind a drivers license.Don't mean to be objective just venting.Let the stupid people pay outrageous fines then maybe the price of a license wheather it be hunting or fishing will drop. Wishful thinking maybe.

I don't have a depth chart but just wanted to let you know the Ice is good out in front of the place you are staying this weekend.  Jack and I will be up there Friday by lunch time.  Just look to your right and you will see us fishing near the chanel and Island for the Derby.  All the trucks will hopefuly be on the other side LOL.  See you this weekend I hope.  Do you still have my cell?

Insurance companies don't have a sunken truck policy, why can't you just pay $70.00, buy a sled and drag your stuff out there like most folks.  ::)

I checked the ice from belmont beach south to the sanbar channel just before  the winnisquam bridge this weekend and its not consistant.8" TO 10" out 100 yrds for shore, down to 3" or 4" after that. With the wind breaking it up everyday for a week before it locked up, Its rough and uneven. Down right Frikken spooky in some spots !!  Good luck this weekend and stay safe.
