« on: Dec 06, 2005, 03:03 PM »
Does anybody have any information on an easy way to get to lake lonely , or a good place to fish once you get on the lake? We fished there last year caught two pike(about 30"00 crappies and a few other fish)

there is a trail you can go in that goes behind Longfellows.  You can park up off the main road to access it.  I have never fished it but have been told it can be cold or hot.

I have fished it quite a few times on the softwater, but only twice on the hardwater.  I would stay toward the northern end of the lake (by Saratoga National Golf Course) and try to find the edge of the weeds and/or the drop.  BE VERY WARY OF THE CREEK BY TIMS TACKLE, that bad boy doesn't seem to get very safe the entire winter.  There is also a nice drop off by the creek mouth as it enters the lake.  About 30 yards from the end of the creek is where it starts, and drops to one of the deepest points on the lake.  There is also a nice drop off on the eastern shore, just north of the first point(also a weed egde).  There are nice pike and a good population of panfish.  By the way, I belive that BigRed used to work at Tims, so he may have some tasty little treats for you as well.  It is definitley hit or miss, hopefully the Fish Gods smile on you the day you go.  Tight lines!

the trail by the entrance to the golf course is the only way to legally get on there. It is suggested to park in the gated lot right there, instead of on the road.  The trail is nice, but long.

the outlet creek never freezes good enough to walk on...sometimes it looks solid, but no one has ever made it...I guess if your a daredevil that would be cool though ;D  Decent pike fishing on lonely...panfish are a Pain in the butt to find consistently...i would rather catch the easy bull gills on 'toga.

Lake lonely is good for pike.  But as Bigred said the panfish are a pain.  We were able to located Perch but nothing bigger than 8".  We tried our crappie spots from the summer but they didn't seem to be relating to that area on the hard water.

I set the tip ups along a weedbed in the bay , then jigged in a few places around there .I caught ALOT of  dink perch ,couple pike, one very nice crappie and a few fish that were about 12" i think they may have been whitefish. After the walk through the trail in a foot of snow , i didnt have the energy to walk too far.

You mean the bay at the back by the golf course?
If you go down to the other end where the creek comes in you will have better luck with the pike.
Interesting you said a species like a whitefish.  Wonder what that would be.

I fished Lonely years ago and caught decent pike just offshore of the island on the southeast side, in about 4 feet of water.  We climbed down a steep grade from the main road to get on....wouldn't advise that.

island?
I assumed it was an island because it looked like water went around it on both sides, but maybe not.  From the stream (exiting the lake?), if that stream was on your left, you would head in the opposite direction for perhaps 100 yards, then cross to the shore on your left.  The depth there within perhaps 25 feet from shore is only 3-4 feet.

I'm geussing most likely you were in the Mud bay.  It is pretty shallow through the bay.  Deffinantly no island on lonely though. :)

You can gain access on the south end of the lake (near Tim's old bait shop), park along the road and you will see an old railroad trestle. You can walk along the trestle from the road right down to the ice.

when I worked at Lake Lonely I was told that no one is allowed to access the ice there any longer...besides, the whole creek area is a drowning waiting to happen.
