New to Eelpout fishing, looking for some advice.
« on: Jan 20, 2006, 10:52 AM »
HI Guys

Like I said I am new to fishing for these guys have caught some accidently while fishing for eye on a lake that I frequent but it seems I catch more ling than eyes. Not many ling but on a trip. Makes me beleive theire should be more there if I target them. After eating them I am hooked, I would like to catch more of them.

Ok where do I start, I have been catching them in a reservoir in quebec that has some depths up to 110 feet deep but I am fishing in 20 feet deep near some open water where their is some current. Should I try to look for them in deeper water?

Should I target them at night?

What are the best baits to use? There are perch, walleye pike, smelt in this lake.

Thanks for the help.

The spot you are fishing sounds like a good place to fish at dusk & for a couple hours after dark. Baiting the bottom with salted minnows(if legal) over a couple days will bring in more ling.
As for bait live minnows on bottom should work. Also jigging a glow in the dark spoon will attrack them to the area & will also catch some. If fishing with multi lines keep them spread out or remove them quickly if a fish is hooked. Ling tend to circle & will tangle all nearby lines fast. >:(
During the day fishing deeper using electronic's to locate fish sometimes works. Prebaiting the holes also helps.

Good Luck
