Pike Protein = AKA trout. Around here the regulations are so ridiculous plus you have to buy an additional stamp for them, plus now the season ended on them on September 30th. The rules change so much for them year to year, unless you're targeting them, you gotta look in the dang rule book to see if they're legal and usually no book on you. Easier just to toss them back or not to catch them at all. Around here there's too many Pike causing too few trout to actually try and target them.

Ditto JS!  Especially fallfish...they bite the heads off of your bait and leave the rest...and small perch....but everything else is lots of fun...I just like the YP to be about 8 inches long.

Where I fish the one I don't want is a pike.  I have heard they are in it now but shouldn't be.  It will be eagle food if I catch one where I fish most.


I don't really like catching eels either,

I haven't caught a pickeral  or perch through the ice for the last 3 years.  I would prefer a pickeral to a yellow perch, though don't mind catching some of the big white perch.  I will take them any day on a trap jig or open water.

A lot of people are saying hornpout (bullhead), one of guys in our party caught one last year, but that was the first I've ever seen thru the ice.  ???

a buddy filleted his laker right there on the ice last yr and then dropped the remainder down the hole.i caught that thing twice that weekend out of two different holes.

the only thing I don't want to catch when I'm fishing is a cold. if I have a trap that keeps getting yanked on by pearch, I'll just jig out of it for a while and have a good time watching my vex light up, and maybe get lucky and pull a few nice fatties for the dinner table. pikerel almost always pull good, I drive over an hour for a chance to catch a nice trophy pike, I love bass, eels pull harder then anything I've ever caught, and catfish I catch end up in my aquarium. I like fishing..... end of story.
