Yeah caribou lake is part of chesuncook, the side closest to ragged.
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did so. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

I thought The Golden Road would have narrowed it down but I stand
corrected next time for those who would get lost in a soup bowl I'll be more direct.

Hey back it down a notch Harry, although I understood your post right away as I have been up in that neck of the woods fishing both open and hardwater over the last 25 years, the post was misleading as to where you really meant. There are a lot of locations paticularly up in Nothern Maine that have like names pertaining to water bodies, townships, and towns. Keepah Seekah is a stand up guy here and acknowledged his misunderstanding of a rather confusing post, spend some time here first and you will know what I mean. :woot:

The area in question brings back lot's of memories. Back in the day, we would be hitting the road about 7 hours from now, on new years eve, on our way to Caribou for dawn fishing (opening day). Used to park at a pull out on the Golden Road, slide down the hill, and start drillin'. We caught some nice salmon, and a few togue to boot. We'd pack up around 3:00 pm and head home. You could'nt pay me to pull that off now  :cookoo:

P.S.- Just remembered a good one from one of those trips. We were headed over Sias Hill in the way early morning dark, during a noreaster. There is a slight turn at the bottom. There was a old Buick Le Sabre buried about 5 ft. up on the right side snowbank. Judging by the tracks up and over the bank, these boys were moving when they went in  :o. Just a hint of tracks under the fresh powder suggesting some sort of  hasty getaway  ;D.
Never did see 'em on the road  ;).
He suggested the pike were probably placed by an angler dissatisfied with, or simply not up to, the challenges of fishing for trout or salmon.”

Harry read ya loud and clear. I will give my father a ring tomorrow and find out what he knows since he lives right there. I love that body of water since I grew up on it. Haven't been there since last ice fishing season. Military puts a damper on things, especially since i get to miss this season yet again. But any who I'll see what I can find out.

New to the forums here, tried to do a search but didn't come up with anything.  Any updates on the ice conditions for chesuncook/caribou?  I'm heading up there Friday for some snowmobiling and fishing.  Talked with the people at Chesuncook village...they said 12" at the North end of the lake.  Any information from south of them on the lake?  Thanks!

Are there still pull outs on the golden road to access the lake?  Want to do a day trip, but we don't have sleds.

Back in the early 90`s we fished towards North end where Deer Pond ran in. We caught nice Salmon and Togue, never knew what the depth would be if they adjusted the gates at Rip Dam. Also, the thourofare between Caribou and Chesuncook worked well. We put in at the campsite/landing after Ragged Stream.
