Just checked dads bait pond:
Well I must say it looked good this morning, but found only a half inch. Not much but still set a spark off, maybe because of walking with the spud again. Found the spud went through on one wack. Also nice to see that it had grown 1/4" per day even during this heat wave. Also found the deer had checked the ice also, and found it unsafe.

Hey... Another inch and you'll be good to walk... At least, if you grew up on ice like I did so you're careful and comfortable... I find some people won't go out on less than 3...

You'll be playing pond hockey by early next week Paul.... let me know when the first game is...nothing better than lacing up the hockey skates on first ice! 8)

Im in for some back yard hockey. I'll bring my son along. He spends more time with skates on, they off.

SEAFOAM? Not sure what you're talking about on this one... All I know is thin ice is good because it takes the fishing pressure away...

seadog....he's a member on here and gave all...well quite a few of us crap last season for fishing 3 inches of ice cause we were a bad influence on kids. somethin about a kid or kids that fell through and didn't make it, tragic yes....but his preaching in my opinion was that he was really blamin us. called those of us who fish 3 inches of ice "macho" and that we "beat our chest with out fist while fishing".

Yeah Paul ! Good to hear the pond has ice on it again. I perdict that I will be picking you up on tues morning and we go for a little ride looking for ice to walk on. With this cold snap coming in I'm sure we will find a pond or two safe enough...what do you think ?

Yeah, he REALLY wouldn't like me... I've Tunk Lake when only the coves were frozen, then only MAYBE 2 inches of ice, and it was so thin and so clear that you could follow the braid back to the fish through the ice... It was cool... Also fished Spectacle off Route 9 opening day when there was only enough ice to walk on pressure cracks... Don't think that was EVEN 2 inches of ice... Let's just say that having a Master Guide as a father has led to some interesting thin ice experiences for me...

Just checked the same pond today.
Found 11/4" of clear w/ bubbles mixed in. That's a growth of one inch since yesterday at the same time. The spud still went threw on one solid chip,[ not safe enough for me].

If this cold holds up, we just may be ice-skateing this weekend.

Still making ice in the frig. Just vapor on Echo Lake this morning and not much of it. Need more snow to cool the water down.

Checked the bait pond again this morning.

1 3/4" of ice. One good hit with the spud held firm, but left a small hole. Did not dare to walk across. Did notice the water was forced onto the ice from the weight.
A few more cold days before the snow would be nice!

ain't lookin good....last report i read was callin for 4-8 inches inland. looks like the coast will be gettin snow at first, then to sleet and freezin rain.

I've been out fishing on about that much before... It's a hairy day, but it's a day of fishing.. Still, now that I'm older and wiser (really, it's just that I don't fish with the person who hauled me out on that stuff much anymore) I'm inclined to wait for about 3 inches.
