Fly Box for Jigs
« on: Nov 27, 2012, 02:12 PM »
What kind of fly box do you use for your perch  jigs?  I am looking for one thick enough for marmooska style jigs.

I have used many different fly boxes and I liked the Clam boxes the best. The only downfall to the clam boxes is you have to have multiple of them to hold all of your tackle and they dont do the best with spoons. I decided to make my own box so I can hold almost everything in one tackle box. I got some extra high density foam from work and modified a plano tackle box with my dremel tool. I am in the process of making another one strictly for my PK spoons. Heres what I came up with:

I keep all of my tungsten jigs in the foam as well as the spoons. Lead jigs go in the tackle trays.

I uswe3 the rose creek box sold by Custon Jigs and Spins.
No foam in it but each jig is held independantly by a rubber hook clamp of sorts.
I don't have a picture but they work good for me.
there is a pic in on there website.

I have well over 400 jigs in one large version of the box in the link. The jigs that are too small to fit securely in between the nubs get the hook stuck in the nub. I have not come across a box that will hold more jigs in the same size.

My favorite box...Bug Luggage

My second favorite...Scientific Anglers

The small Clam box works good for unique jigs like tarantula's

The old school aluminum boxes work pretty decent as well

' Have to mention the Micro-slit foam fly boxes. Organizes and holds lures apart without banging and chipping. The slit/slot holds save the foam tearing, hook barb issues, yield long foam life. Boxes available two sided and with a page[4 sided]. Capacity 550 flies[ ice lures ??]. Great for the small stuff.

Find'em at all fly shops and EBay. {Irideus and others} Come in small, med' and large. All fit in big pockets.

The large Clam boxes are the best I have found. I have used quite a few through the years and none match up!

I'll keep my guns, freedom, and money. You can keep "The Change"

Dylan,

I like the look of the Clam boxes.  I'll check them out when I am at the new Fishin Hole Store, Edmoton on Wednesday.

Clam Ice Armor boxes! They are very nice.

I used a fly box once, frabill I think it was. In the off season I had it packed in my shanty up in the rafters in the garage, the next fall when I took it down the heat from being up there through the summer evidently made the epoxy let go and all the foam pieces were laying loose and my jigs were covered in melted epoxy. Ruined about $200 in jigs.

Tight lines and big fish
