NO COTTON ..that includes base layers ...jeans.. socks .  Blends of Synthetics ..Wool..Fleece  etc are your best friends

what about the striker ice trekker jacket? its a little more lower budget. any good?

Not as much insulation as the others, but has the thicker outer shell. Depending on where you live, it's plenty warm.

I bought the Frabil i2 jacket and bibs a couple of years ago for about $140. I go with thermal base layer,  insulated underwear for mid layer, then the jacket/bibs. On the colder days I'll add a fiber filled coat liner over the IU. No bulk issues at all. Btw...I'm an ol' retiree who doesn't like to get cold either. 😉

that's my deal too. old and not in the greatest health. always cold.
