Where to find smelt in Wyoming??
« on: Jan 05, 2005, 09:55 AM »
Just was wondering if you can help me out.  I hear that smelt is the bait to catch lakers on.  Where can i get smelt in Wyoming.  I believe that it can not be alive.  If it not available in WY, then where can I order it from?

Ask around in the western forum. There are plenty of members from wyoming and northeastern colorado that could answer your question! Hope to see you posting there.

if anybody from michigan will help me out with the lakes and stuff up here I'd really appreciate it since I'm new to the area.

Here you can buy dead smelt at Gene Taylor's and Sportsman's warehouse, our two large sporting goods stores. They make good deadbait because they are so oily. Frozen anchovies also work just about as good. However the best deadbait I have found are smaller, freshly killed suckers. Used to buy them live from a guy who trapped them out of the irrigation canals. Worked better than any other type of cutbait.
