What is the largest bass you have caught while ice fishing? The largest I have heard of is 6 pounds.

6 pounds was my biggest untill today.   today i got one that was 26 inches long with a 17.5 inch girth.  using the length girth equation the fish weighed 9.85 pounds.  The bass was measured and photographed and let go to live a couple of more years.

Oh and icefinger i think the taxidermist that you sent your bass to got it mixed up with another bass, because that mount does not do the real bass justice.

Do you know anybody that does replica mounts.  I let that big one go so i do not have the fish but i do have the measurements that are needed.

Peple,
I dont think that the fish should shrink.  I am not exactly sure how you go about mounting a fish from the actually fish.  But I am pretty sure that a fiberglass replica mount should be to the sspecs that you give the taxidermist.

nice bass jiggerman    a replica would look good on the wall.

most skin mounts ive seen dont even look like the original fish

as long as you have a good photo and measurements of the fish
fiberglass replicas are the way to go

some taxidermist just order the forms (from catalog) that the skin gets mounted on instead of making thier own forms-so if you get a fish that has untipical measurements, the fish you get back looks nothing like the one you caught-mine somehow lost that big hump on its back and some girth but somehow it gained an inch in length.the last fish i had mounted was a 22lb steelhead .i had a fiberglass replica moulded from the actual fish and you can see every scale and every mark that was on the fish .it costs a little more for replicas but its well worth it id never go back to skin mounts.

yea it sucks -the worse thing is ,i checked out a few places before taking
that fish to that taxidermist and the fish he had in his shop actualy looked pretty good- (dont know what happend) i probably wont ever catch one like that thru the ice again either.
at least i got a decent pictue of it on the ice-i should throw the mount away and frame the picture lol.

Dont get me wrong. I used to do skin mounts for people, and I would rather put a photo on the wall. Besides, if you dont tell where you caught it, you may catch it again next year.  And a photo in a frame runs a lot less money. Just some pros and cons. Like I said, I'm not against it, I just think hangin em is too much cash.

I went to the Sportsmans show in Harrisburg, PA this year, and there was a taxi. there from minnesota I think.  Name is Artistic Anglers.  11 an inch, and the best job I have ever seen.  If he does that kind of work all the time, it is #1.  Artistic Anglers

I believe that is the place.  The mounts I saw were fabulous, but I haven't gotten any done yet

i'am from wyoming and we have a few places around here that we can get some bass. I think that i might have broke off to a huge largemouth that was bigger than the two 5's that i caught a few summers ago. i was just wondering what you guys get those fatties on, and also if the bass take it easy until they see the light in the top of the whole and then take off. i was wondering that because that is what happend to me and is also the first time i have broke off.
thanks for the info

Up at Black Lake, myself and my dad (pictured) caught a ton of bass like this.
At our little pond we've also caught some bigger bass, but have no photos

I have iced a smallmouth and a largemouth over four pounds, one each in the same day while fishing for walleyes with a jigging rapala. My biggest open water largemouth is 6.5 pounds, measured 22" long. Biggest open water smallmouth was a 19", 4 pounder, thought have caught several of that size. No 5 pounders yet but I know they will come.

Still haven't caught a bass through the ice, but have hooked and lost a couple brutes...biggest bass is this 7 lb., 24.5 inch HAWG that I caught last year.  ;D

I love the ice, but I can't wait to get back to bass fishing again!!
