What is the largest bass you have caught while ice fishing? The largest I have heard of is 6 pounds.
-
6 pounds was my biggest untill today. today i got one that was 26 inches long with a 17.5 inch girth. using the length girth equation the fish weighed 9.85 pounds. The bass was measured and photographed and let go to live a couple of more years.

-
thats a nice one
-
Oh and icefinger i think the taxidermist that you sent your bass to got it mixed up with another bass, because that mount does not do the real bass justice.
Do you know anybody that does replica mounts. I let that big one go so i do not have the fish but i do have the measurements that are needed.
JiggerMan
-
Peple,
I dont think that the fish should shrink. I am not exactly sure how you go about mounting a fish from the actually fish. But I am pretty sure that a fiberglass replica mount should be to the sspecs that you give the taxidermist.
JiggerMan
-
nice bass jiggerman a replica would look good on the wall.
most skin mounts ive seen dont even look like the original fish
as long as you have a good photo and measurements of the fish
fiberglass replicas are the way to go
-
some taxidermist just order the forms (from catalog) that the skin gets mounted on instead of making thier own forms-so if you get a fish that has untipical measurements, the fish you get back looks nothing like the one you caught-mine somehow lost that big hump on its back and some girth but somehow it gained an inch in length.the last fish i had mounted was a 22lb steelhead .i had a fiberglass replica moulded from the actual fish and you can see every scale and every mark that was on the fish .it costs a little more for replicas but its well worth it id never go back to skin mounts.(http://img18.photobucket.com/albums/v54/bluegill/s.jpg)
-
Dam icefinger that mount really sucks. Not being mean but the pic was a lot bigger. The mount looks like a 5lber awful job , sorry bro but I wouldn't have paid for that crap >:(

yea it sucks -the worse thing is ,i checked out a few places before taking
that fish to that taxidermist and the fish he had in his shop actualy looked pretty good- (dont know what happend) i probably wont ever catch one like that thru the ice again either.
at least i got a decent pictue of it on the ice-i should throw the mount away and frame the picture lol.
-
Dont get me wrong. I used to do skin mounts for people, and I would rather put a photo on the wall. Besides, if you dont tell where you caught it, you may catch it again next year. And a photo in a frame runs a lot less money. Just some pros and cons. Like I said, I'm not against it, I just think hangin em is too much cash.
-
I went to the Sportsmans show in Harrisburg, PA this year, and there was a taxi. there from minnesota I think. Name is Artistic Anglers. 11 an inch, and the best job I have ever seen. If he does that kind of work all the time, it is #1. Artistic Anglers

Duluth, MN 55803 218-721-4900
I believe that is the place. The mounts I saw were fabulous, but I haven't gotten any done yet
-
The Massachusetts state record largemouth was caught through the ice and weighed 15.8 pounds.
-
About 5 1/2, which is perty good for MN.
-
i'am from wyoming and we have a few places around here that we can get some bass. I think that i might have broke off to a huge largemouth that was bigger than the two 5's that i caught a few summers ago. i was just wondering what you guys get those fatties on, and also if the bass take it easy until they see the light in the top of the whole and then take off. i was wondering that because that is what happend to me and is also the first time i have broke off.
thanks for the info

At our little pond we've also caught some bigger bass, but have no photos
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v31/Pasquatch/b20.jpg)
-
I have iced a smallmouth and a largemouth over four pounds, one each in the same day while fishing for walleyes with a jigging rapala. My biggest open water largemouth is 6.5 pounds, measured 22" long. Biggest open water smallmouth was a 19", 4 pounder, thought have caught several of that size. No 5 pounders yet but I know they will come.

awesome bass on the ice C&R, man wish I could find them on the open water. ;)
 Fish On!
-
i had a bass on last year up on kelly bay at lake champlain that i had to break off...i could not fit it through my 7" hole...i was by myself, and it just kept getting stuck when i tried to pull it through the hole...and the whole situation was made worse by the 34" of ice.
-
I have yet to catch a bass through the ice :-\ But open water, we go to a club that is privately owned and run, (my cousins happen to do this :P) and my biggest is 10.5 lbs. I have caught many 5-9 lbers. The 10.5 is on video at his house on his camera..I should try to get it. His 8 year old kid was fishing with us, and he caught a 8lber while I was getting the hook off mine. Man, I love the rich lakes ;D And he also swears to this day I had caught the state record rock bass, This thing was huge I bet it was close to 3 lbs!
-
My biggest was a 4 1/2 lber while fishing for crappie. Since bass are out of season here I dont fish for them but man do they put up a fight when you hook one on ultralight gear fishing for pannies.
-
me a 4 pound smally, through thin wicked thin ice. ;D
-
i caught my largest LMB today....4 lbs 3 oz at A1 in westboro, massachusetts.

Here is a quick pic of the 26 incher that o got this past Saturday.
Wow 26 inches and that stout. How much did that bass weigh. 8 or 9 pounds? I mounted a really fat Florida bass that was only 25 inches on a board but was just under 10 lbs.
-
nice bass jiggerman a replica would look good on the wall.
most skin mounts ive seen dont even look like the original fish
as long as you have a good photo and measurements of the fish
fiberglass replicas are the way to go
Then you need to find a better taxidermist. ;)
Here's a skin mount I did of a bass just under 10 lbs. for a customer. I personally don't like to jack the jaws this far apart but the customer wanted that.

that is a very sweet mount.
But, here is a C&R today 22 - 3/4" biggest one this season off open or hard and I get my biggen on the ice this season. ;D
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v17/camofish/icefishing/camoLMB22_34b.jpg)

Nice work on that lm bass taxidermist
Thanks! Too bad the guy won't pick it up. He owes me $300.00! :'(

If I built you up some really nice "natural environments" do you think you'd be able to talk your clients into buying them? It'd help you convince them to do double sided mounts........
-

Could you clarify? Not sure what you mean?
I do double sided mounts occasionally in glass cases. This guy was a good customer so I didn't require the usual 50 percent deposit. He claims he is having financial problems.
How's this for a coffee table I sold recently?

Now thats a cool table 8) Guaranteed would get some flack if I set that up in the living room

Thanks. I did simulate slush around the hole after the pic was taken.
Flack? Before I specialized in fish I used to do gameheads. If I had a nickle for everytime I heard the wife say you're not hanging that in MY HOUSE I'd be a rich man. I really wanted to say, "Doesn't the house belong to both of you?" but I would bite my tongue.
-
jiggerman I would guess your fish close to 3lbs.
-
my biggest through the ice is 5lbs 10 onces
-
My biggest bass wasn't all that big. I caught it yesterday and it also counts as my first bass through the ice. It was a 14 inch lagemouth and I caught it on a gold hook with about 4 maggots.

I don't know the weight, but pretty close to 16.75" is my biggest. They were delicious. Marinade with soy sauce, olive oil, lemon juice, and minced garlic. Let soak for at least a couple hours. All jiggin. Pimples and Lindy darter.

Don't have a picture, caught it 6 years ago, fishing alone(of course), and didn't have a cameraphone yet. It measured 22 1/4 inches and weighed in at between 6-6 1/2 pounds. Caught it jigging for crappie in a strip mine pond near my house. Released it to grow bigger, I love the panfish but don't like the taste of bass.
-
this is my biggest while ice fishing...(http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr170/fish100_album/0106001606Ewiw1.jpg)
-
im not by any means a bass guy but i have to admit i caught this 19'' 5.2lb tank couple days ago while fishing for gills. it was truly a battle on 3lb test. its a beautiful fish and if i was into bass i might have mounted it...i released her to help keep the perch and bluegill in check and she was just to pretty to keep. about 30 minutes later i caught another that was slightly smaller...didnt have quit the squareness but same length.
-
my biggest was a 19 1/2" smallie pity i didn't have a camera and they were out of season, back down the hole she goes.
-
I got a state pin for a 8.3 lb LM, I catch years ago through the ice. Med heavy shiner 4ft water. It was the last bass I killed...

Awesome jig bass & sweet straight line set-up; Musta been a blast!

I've never caught a bass through the ice, biggest one I've caught in open water was a 5lb 2oz smallmouth, it's on the wall.
-
Last year was my first year that I really got serious and hardwater fishing so my best is 3 pounds
-
mine is a 6 pound largemouth on a tip up and 3 or 4 pounds jigging, dont really target bass so dont catch many.
