Barton Cove
« on: Feb 17, 2024, 12:58 PM »
So I’ve done my share of walleye fishing in Connecticut but now live in Western mass and have determined Barton Cove might be a good place to try. Would one of you be willing to PM me any info that might be of use such as locations to try or not try(mostly for safety reasons) And access/parking etc.? Any other places relatively close to Springfield would be helpful as well. Thank you in advance.

Park at the camp ground or the boat ramp, most people chose the camp ground. I've fish there a dozen times throughout the years and haven't seen a walleye caught in person but I know it happens. I haven't seen any pike or smallies caught either. Better fishing in the oxbow in east Hampton but unsafe there probably.

Thanks Hacker. All set with pike & bass. I fish for what I eat and like eating winter walleye, perch, trout, crappie and salmon.

The boat ramp at Barton Cove has a gate up in the winter. You cannot park there.

🙄 I've parked there before.

Did you block the gate? That would have gotten you towed. Otherwise, you are parking on a state highway (Rte. 2) which is always illegal. Also, it's a long way to the water when the snow is deep.

Is the gate something new this year, because I’ve fished it in the past, just not this year because of no ice

We are talking about the boat launch area directly on Rte. 2, not the camping area where you drive in and everyone fishes. I have never seen anyone parked at the gate to the boat launch.
