What depth of water?

I'm just getting into spearing, and just curious as to what depth you guys have the best luck spearing in..
I would assume 6-8 feet would be the ideal.

That would be  a good place to start, but it has to also with the lake conditions, weed growth, and the prey available the pike are after, you must look at that whole picture and connect the dots. The worst that can happen from trying is to fail and that is all part of learning. Find good weed edges or opening along flat, points, and drop offs and give it a try.  @)

The lake i spear on has good weed beds and i set up right in the middle of the weeds. Ive speared from as little as 4feet to 20 feet but look for bait fish.

90 percent of the time I set up between 5 and 12 feet of water.

I like to set up near the tallest weed growth I can find.  This usually occurs along the edge of a drop.
