NOT Antero, (12/16/17)
« on: Dec 16, 2017, 08:43 PM »
OR, SMACK DOWN IN BROWN TOWN!!!  ;D

Fishslap and I didn't want to fish with hundreds of buddies, so we headed to a little lake we hit a few years ago that produced some fat bows.  Got to the lake at sunrise, and had the whole lake to ourselves.  Drilled a few holes in 20 fow,  and it was ON!  Browns, snake river cutthroats and bows.  They hit everything -- small tungsten, shrimpos, HD Ices, jigging raps, leech flutter spoons, tubes -- it was actually a challenge to find something they didn't want.  Average size wasn't huge, around 14-15", but we probably caught close to 75 fish each, missed another 30.  Shaun got the biggest of the day, a 17" brown. Didn't find the real bigguns, but it was highly entertaining.  It's interesting how the lake has changed in a few years.  Not as many bows, WAY more browns.  Left by around 2pm, thoroughly browned-out.  The next fishing I do will NOT be for trout.

Yeah next weekend I’m gonna travel for good ice.   Even if I have to go out of state.   Got a lake in my sights I wanna fish 2 hours north of the house

Just like you plan it out. Respectable fish, heavy action, nice weather, beautiful surroundings, agreeable companionship. You'd be hard to please if you didn't enjoy that kind of day. Good to see those HD Ice lures doing their thing. Sounds as though you may be trouted out.
We're born, we live for a while, and then we die.  Sounds like a good reason to go ice fishing.

Looks like some serious ice building going on from Thursday until well after Christmas, at least in SP.
I liked the look of that Fuel/Clam/Mora I saw you using Friday. Buzzed right on down. I'm running a Fuel/Kovac, 8" Nils but it's just a little tall for leverage and a little twisty at the bottom of the hole. That Clam can't add very much weight I wouldn't think.

Nice.  I know those fish and road.  How thick is the ice there?  I was thinking of scouting out a perch spot today.  See how far the ice extends from the inlet.

Didn’t measure it but I’d say 5-7” at least.  Road was good because it was frozen.  If it warms up it could get sloppy.

Yeah, I'd say 5-7" and super clear.  It was fun watching the fish fighting through the ice!

Thanks for checking the perch location-- looking forward to hearing what you find.  Another perch spot just North of where we were yesterday has fishable ice already.

My next fishing spot won't be for trout. Or perch.  But it also won't be on the ice.   ;D

Ronco, I was already there by the time your message appeared.  The ice was not safe.  Ice shelf is creeping forward from the feeder stream.  But, the thickest edge ice that I found was 2" - and cloudy.  I didn't walk up and around the bend.  Maybe it was thicker around there.  But the perching has been weak for me that far up.  Below link is a picture of the ice shelf forming.  Looks like it I will have to waiting until I get back from Tejas in the new year to fish it.

Kill em.  I was alone and my jack russell wasn't going to be able to pull my 220 lb azz out.  It is a long hike when you don't have several hours of fishing at the far end for recovery.

I think you are in error-

New sign.  STL.  New rules. I guess they are allowed if hunting, but not if  fishing.  According to the sign you can't even hike.     Always fish the inlet  river  up to eagles nest during the summer with my dog.  Not this year super pissed.   you must of walked right past the sign.  On the bottom

Yeah, I saw the sign.  Brought the dog in anyway.  She was scouting for rabbits.  She doesn't have to go in the future, pain in the butt anyway.  I like the concept but...I suspect the sign will be disregarded and then with enough complaints maybe taken down.  It has always been a popular place with hikers with dogs.  The bridge is recently finished and looks great.  So, no wading across.
