Catching Walleye on homemade automatic hook setter
« on: Feb 17, 2014, 11:08 AM »
So I've never fished for Walleye before but would like to start targeting them.   I have made up a bunch of automatic hook setters that I use for Perch, Pickerel and Crappie.  (see video)
tFh_A&feature=c4-overview .  I put various minnows on a single hook on this and do pretty well with getting a good hook set.

Do you guys think a setup like this would work for Walleye?

Looks like a good job. For walleyes it probably depends on their mood. If they are aggressive I am sure your rig would do just fine. Problem is sometimes they bite so light that I am not sure they would trip your system.

Good luck with it, it's always fun experimenting.

I can set up the triggers to be extremely sensitive on these.   I really don't know much at all about Walleye fishing but if they pull at all on that line, this rig will go off.   Thanks.

pete,
I love that adjustable tension system.  Very cool and simple.  Great thinking.

Thanks.   One of these days I am going to try to get a video of it working on the ice.   Tough to do when all I have is an IPhone

I use an auto jigger made out of a BBQ rotisserie, works pretty good..............some days...... other days not so good, like all other presentations. When using jigs or walleye flyers I have them rest on the bottom in the pause section, and with Chubbies or Rattle Spoons, I set the lure about 6-12" off bottom on the pause.
